“There’s a beautiful ballad called ‘The Night Was So Young.’ We sang great harmonies on that.” Here’s Brian at home in 2000 playing a part of the 1977 Beach Boys’ classic.

The Association 🎩🪄Along Comes Mary / Windy (Live on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, 1967) They actually explain themselves like a machine, and that’s part of what makes this clip so great! An underrated, nerdy ’60s band with incredible harmonies. #TheAssociation

Remembering the great Thelonious Monk who was born on this day in 1917. Known as one of the first creators of modern jazz, Monk’s music was known for its humorous, almost playful, quality. His playing was percussive and sparse, often being described as “angular,” and he used complex and dissonant harmonies and unusual intervals and rhythms. He was also one of the most prolific composers in the history of jazz. Many of his compositions, which were generally written in the 12-bar blues or the 32-bar ballad form, became jazz standards. Among his best-known works are “Well, You Needn’t,” “I Mean You,” “Straight, No Chaser,” “Criss-Cross,” “Mysterioso,” “Epistrophy,” “Blue Monk,” and “ ’Round Midnight.” Here, he is performing “Evidence” with Charlie Rouse on saxophone, John Ore on bass and Frankie Dunlop on drums live in Belgium, 1963.

Taehyung for Apple Music on Please 🐯The 13th track on our album is a song called “Please.” It’s a track you can listen to comfortably and with ease. Centered around trap drums and a heavy 808 bass, it’s a warm song where lo-fi synths and indie guitar sounds come together in harmony. In “Please,” we tried to express our honest feelings and firm conviction that we want to be with someone in any situation. We think the layered, bright harmonies are especially charming, what do you think? Doesn’t it give off a warm feeling? It would be great to listen to this song when starting your morning fresh, after finishing your day while enjoying some quiet time, or during a relaxed weekend. We’d be really happy if this song could accompany your moments of rest, ARMY.

Remembering the great Bill Evans who was born on this day in 1929. Known for lush harmonies and lyrical improvisation, Evans is regarded as one of the most influential pianists of his time. The way Evans built and connected chords and improvised melodies gave his playing a romantic quality that contrasted with much of 1950s bebop. In an interview given in 1964, Evans described Bud Powell as his single greatest influence. His repertoire was also unusual. Musical theatre pieces such as “Someday My Prince Will Come” and “My Favorite Things” became in his hands bold rhythmic and chromatic experiments. During his lifetime, Evans was honored with 31 Grammy nominations and seven Awards. In 1994, he was posthumously honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Here, he is performing “Someday My Prince Will Come” with Eddie Gomez on bass and Marty Morell on drums live in Denmark, 1970.

In the last 24 hours the world said goodbye to one of the most brilliant musical minds in music history, Brian Wilson. Leading The Beach Boys with his unmistakable understanding of harmony and beautiful arrangements he captured an iconic sound which forever shaped music, and directly impacted us as music makers. We heard the harmonies of The Beach Boys and were in awe, starting with an acapella rendition of “Fun, Fun, Fun” when we were aged 6, 9 and 11 in 1992, all the way forward to 2023 standing on the stage singing “Barbara Ann” for the special Grammy Tribute concert, his musical genius and the work of The Beach Boys still resonates. Tonight the greatest living songwriters in the world are gathering for the Songwriters Hall of Fame in NYC, among the highest honors for music craftsmen. 25 years ago we were asked to sing for Brian’s induction into the Hall Of Fame, and of course we had to sing arguably one of the most beautiful pop songs ever written, Brian’s “God Only Knows”. Looking across at Brian Wilson as Paul McCartney talked about his musical impact, we were in awe. The beauty of his great work as a craftsman, is his gift - to take deeply complex chords, harmonies and arrangements and somehow make them accessible, as familiar and relatable as a lullaby. We are forever grateful for Brian’s love of music and his lifetime of sharing that craft. It changed the world and broke the barriers of popular music. God only knows where we would be without Brian Wilson. RIP - Brian Wilson

RIP to Brian Wilson. The Beach Boys legend died at 82. Paul McCartney has said “God Only Knows” is the greatest song ever written and one of the few to bring him to tears. In 2000, McCartney inducted Wilson into the Songwriters Hall of Fame with a heartfelt speech: “He wrote some music that when I played it, it made me cry and I don't quite know why. It wasn't necessarily the words or the music. There was just something so deep in it. There's only certain pieces of music that can do this to me and just reach it right down in me. I think it's a sign of great genius to be able to do that with a bunch of words and a bunch of notes. This man deserves to be in the Hall of Fame that's for sure. So, thank you sir for everything you've done for me. For making me cry. For having that thing you can do with your music. You just put those notes and those harmonies together. Stick a couple of words over the top of it and you've got me any day." *** Link:
