I think he’s putting the bricks sideways… also there’s not much penetration into the holes if you do it that way. There’s much more penetration into the holes if you put a big glob of mortar on the top and then you press the mortar down into the holes in the blocks.

Seems like a lot of extra work. Cleaner though.

Bricks won’t set properly like that the structure will be weak and the mortar is too dry

Unique..? I think Noel Marshall might disagree with you. I watched a young man show his proprietary tool at an Ideal Home show 30 years ago. He wanted professionals to use this and I told him they'd never go for it. I wish I'd asked if he wanted investors...

The holes should be oriented vertically. He's using way too much mortar.
