Respect the Uniform Do not misbehave with the police. They are on the roads for your safety and the safety of others, especially on New Year night when risks are high. While police officials are performing their duty and calmly asking a drunk youth to sit and cooperate, this young man is instead misbehaving, arguing, and showing disrespect. Such behavior is completely unacceptable. Police officers are not on the streets to harass anyone they are there to prevent accidents, control crowds, and ensure that celebrations remain safe and peaceful. When a person is drunk and out of control, the police have every right and responsibility to intervene. Instead of cooperating, creating a scene and disrespecting officers who are only doing their job reflects arrogance, indiscipline, and a lack of civic sense.This kind of misconduct not only puts the officer at risk but also endangers the public. While thousands of police personnel sacrifice their own New Year celebrations, stay away from their families, and work through the night to protect citizens, it is shameful for any youth to respond with aggression or defiance.Freedom does not mean behaving recklessly, and celebration does not give anyone the right to insult or obstruct law enforcement. Yesterday, a guy in Noida Sector 94 crashed his lousy sports car into three people, casually claiming that he had only ‘gently pressed the accelerator.’ I’ve always maintained that sports cars don’t belong in India – people can easily afford them but can’t buy the skills required to drive them. While I was in Manchester last week, I did the same thing I did in London today in between work meetings. The relatively young-in-service officers (who all look so young, or it's me getting older), are a cohort I have huge respect for. Here is a fact. Policing is not for everyone and many that apply to join do not get to the attestation stage. Some that do, drop out thereafter or do not pass. So, those that get through the training and get on our streets deserve encouragement, mentoring, and support - not ridicule. We all used to be new at something once. It was a real honour to meet those new Metropolitan Police officers as I did those from Greater Manchester Police officers, chat with, and thank them for their work. To those of you; young and not so young in service 😀 - thank you for all that you do to keep us safe all year round. Chin up. 💙

A popular TikToker, Lumber, got into a serious confrontation with police officers during a late-night stop-and-search in Lagos. He and his friends were stopped, and the officers took Submarine Boy’s car papers, insisting they follow them to their vehicle for verification, but he refused. What was meant to be a quick check dragged from around 1am to 3am, with tension building. When Lumber tried to get the papers back, one officer reportedly tore them, which pushed things over the edge. Out of frustration, Lumber seized the officer’s phone and insisted they replace the damaged papers before getting it back 😂. The back-and-forth continued until about 4am. Honestly, how long are things supposed to keep going like this? How do you check someone’s documents and end up destroying them? That’s not enforcement, that’s abuse. Look at this video. More than 15 armed police officers descend on a single defenseless young man in Kiamaiko. He is unarmed. He is overpowered. He poses no visible threat. Yet the blows keep coming. What is even more disturbing is that many of the strikes appear directed at his back and spinal area. Why? What purpose does that serve other than to inflict maximum pain and possibly permanent injury? Who is teaching our brothers and sisters in uniform that force must continue long after a suspect has been subdued? When did arrest become synonymous with punishment? When did law enforcement become an exercise in humiliation, maiming, or killing? A young man surrounded by more than 15 armed officers does not require such violence to be arrested. He requires restraint, professionalism, and respect for the law. I want to ask the Inspector General of the National Police Service, Douglas Kanja, not just as the head of law enforcement, but as a father: When you watch this video, what do you feel? If that young man being beaten was your son, would you be satisfied with this conduct? Would you call it justice? Would you call it policing? Every Kenyan child is someone's son. Every Kenyan child is someone's hope, someone's prayer, someone's future. The uniform should inspire safety, not fear. The badge should symbolize protection, not brutality. A nation cannot claim to uphold the rule of law while turning a blind eye to such scenes. Kenyans are not asking for special treatment. We are asking for humanity. We are asking for accountability.
