“The annual Easter rocket war”. What does any of this have to do with observing the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ?

Every Easter, Vrontados hosts a unique and spectacular tradition called "Rouketopolemos" (Greek: Ρουκετοπόλεμος), which translates to "rocket war". Two rival church communities, Agios Markos and Panagia Erithiani, engage in a mock battle by firing thousands of homemade rockets at each other's bell towers during the night of Holy Saturday. Tonight at midnight mass there will be fireworks in nearly ever Greek Orthodox Church.
