Christopher Plummer (December 13, 1929 – 2021) was a legendary Canadian actor, best known for playing Captain Georg von Trapp in the iconic musical The Sound of Music (1965). William Holden's acceptance speech for 'Best Actor' award he won for Billy Wilder's "Stalag 17" (1953) was the shortest in Academy history up until that time. He said only four words: "Thank You. Thank You" Holden hadn't meant to be so brief, but the televised TV broadcast of the Academy Awards ceremony was running long, and was about to be cut off the air. Many of the acceptance speeches that night were cut off halfway due to commercials. William Holden expounded his views that night backstage on a system he felt valued commercials over program content. Holden later took out an ad in the Hollywood trade publications thanking the people he had intended to thank in his speech. He also felt that Burt Lancaster or Montgomery Clift should have won the award instead of him for their performances in "From Here to Eternity" (1953) P.S: Remembering the great American actor, William Holden, on his 108th birthday!
