One of the most tiresome and unnecessary characters in the history of the Star Trek franchise? Disclaimer: This is not a criticism of John de Lancie's performance or as actor, his acting as Q is probably the only reason why the character kept getting written back in despite the structural problems. But great acting can't fix a character whose entire function is "I can do anything, so the plot doesn't have to make sense."

I like how Picard’s reaction to the cigar is to immediately pull it out and Riker‘s reaction is “huh a cigar?” like he totally isn’t going to put that thing in his pocket and light it up later.
