Obviously there are still thousands of VFX in the film, but building on a physical foundation is important. You can really tell when an actor is able to move around, touch, and live in the set, vs when they're fidgeting awkwardly in the middle of a greenscreen, with a fake lightwrapped background. Can you tell which one of these shots was filmed on a bluescreen and which one was filmed outside in the fuckin desert?

Saw it today in theaters. Easily top 10 movies of the year. Shame this isn't getting a full release. It's meant to be seen on the big screen

Really disappointed this isn't a major theater release. Since I cancelled Netflix over my absolute disgust with their programming and the final straw being The Witcher fiasco.... I guess I don't get to watch this.

I mean, miniatures are why LoTR still looks good today. Seems a solid choice. Based on the trailer, seems he’s actually following the book, which I’ve never seen done in film. What an amazing book, who do you think wrote it?

Sorry but he's reached the senescence stage. Some think it's age that does this to creatives, but that's wrong. Look at Kubrick. Rather its the sycophants and the fame which results in a lack of criticism and thus growth. Same thing happened to Burton and so many others. People will boo me for saying this but honestly compare Pan's Labyrinth to anything he's made recently. Not even close and accepting his work without question is the very thing that makes it sour. It makes you part of the problem. I hope this is a turn around. Maybe he ditched the glazers or found an internal process like Kubrick.

No CGI, Unless it's invisible CGI, oh, then artisan-approved. I remember when 'Blade Runner 2049' came out and people were saying the same thing, until the VFX breakdown dropped. Amazing that this rage bait still works.

If you realise this, this stubbornness, and willingness will keep the cinema as we know it alive for ages in future. It might get rare using completely old methods, and equally much valuable. Because the real old craftsmanship kind of herd work will always be valuable, no matter how much the technology go beyond our imagination.

Del Toro’s nostalgia for “real sets” misses what makes art real. Craftsmanship is not about materials but about intent. Paint and pixels both come alive through human vision. Frankenstein is a story about creation through unnatural means, yet he rejects the very tools that reflect that idea. AI and digital media are not replacements for craftsmanship but its evolution. The tool never defines the art, the mind behind it does.
