@zach_hazard The "loudness" of a gun is only partially the sound produced by explosive gasses, you cannot forget the supersonic crack of the bullet which ultimately makes it very difficult to fully "silence" a gun, hence why subsonic ammunition is often employed to achieve greater effect.

@zach_hazard Stupid question, but if a suppressor is essentially just a tube to cool and trap the gas escaping from the initial explosion, would a longer, thicker suppressor not dampen the noise further? Essentially—why make this, and not this?
