Took the Girona to Madrid train this morning, and I don't think I'll fly domestically in Spain again. - 07:23 out of Girona, arrived Barcelona Sants 08:04 (right on the dot). - 21 min connection in Sants. I would never risk that anywhere else (except maybe in Switzerland or Japan). - 08:25 out of Barcelona, and we lost about 20 min on the way due to speed restrictions on the line. Renfe emailed me the new arrival time and arrived at Madrid Atocha at 11:38. - €102.10 return. So €51 each way for 700km, city centre to city centre. - AC, wifi (not the best of speeds though), and I booked a quiet carriage (best €0 upgrade). - no need to come to the station 2 hours in advance. I arrived 15 mins before departure and had time to locate my platform and train. - there's also a cafe on the train, in case you want to grab a coffee or snack (€7.20 for a sambo+coffee). To fly this I'd have to get to El Prat first, do the whole airport thing, then Barajas into the centre. Around 6 hours door to door, a 4am alarm and for more money probably. Btw, Spain has the biggest high speed network in Europe and the second biggest in the world after China. Once you use it properly, you can't go back. Very impressed.

“Ryuichi Sakamoto & Tin Drum | KAGAMI+” Makes Its Japan Premiere KAGAMI+, a work that captures Ryuichi Sakamoto’s piano performance in three dimensions and reconstructs it in a mixed reality (MR) space, arrives in Japan for the first time. The exhibition runs from June 27 to October 12, 2026, at VS., a cultural a cultural apparatus in Umekita, Osaka. Tickets are now on sale, and the full programme for the long-awaited Japan premiere has been announced. KAGAMI was conceived and developed over the final four years of Sakamoto’s life in collaboration with Todd Eckert and the creative studio Tin Drum. Since its world premiere at The Shed in 2023, the work has been presented internationally in cities including London, Manchester, Taipei, Singapore, Melbourne, Pesaro, and Hong Kong, receiving wide acclaim. Wearing optically transparent headsets, audiences encounter an authentic representation of Sakamoto at the grand piano, realized through a unique form of dimensional photographic capture. His performance at the grand piano emerges within the space alongside ethereal visuals that respond to the music, allowing audiences to experience the performance at a proximity not possible in a conventional concert setting. The experience extends beyond sound and image. Video, photography, and text are integrated throughout the space, alongside a natural scent personally blended by Sakamoto, creating a multilayered sensory environment. Paranoid man mocked for hunting a spy device in his home. No one believed the government could plant bugs in people’s apartments. A month later, his device found a bug in every mocker’s house. He started selling it and made $255k as everyone rushed to check their own homes. Here's how he made this technology using only Claude: The device is called an RF bug detector. Hidden cameras, microphones, and GPS trackers all leak radio signals when they transmit. This scanner picks up those signals and shows you exactly where they are coming from. The whole build costs around $25 in parts and runs on a small rechargeable battery. You need 4 things. - ESP32 development board - AD8317 RF detector module (the part that senses the signal) - A small OLED screen - A LiPo battery and charging board 1. Wire the AD8317 module to the ESP32 analog input, then connect the OLED screen to the I2C pins, which takes about ten minutes on a breadboard. 2. And in between all that, we've got a full merchandise store on site. There will be Rebel News toques and hoodies and mugs and books, and yes, I will be there to sign them. We'll have other sponsors and exhibitor booths from some of the best freedom-oriented businesses and organizations in the country, people you want to know about causes worth supporting and groups doing the real work on the issues that matter. It's worth showing up early to spend some time at those booths before the speeches begin. It's the best gathering of freedom-minded Canadians anywhere in the country. I've been saying that for years and I keep saying it because it keeps being true. Now, I need to be straight with you about one thing, these events sell out every single year without exception. As most of you know, my daughter Taryn moved back in with me after about 15 years with her grandparents. They took great care of her, but she was ready to come home to Mom, and I’m at a place in my life where I can provide the best care and resources for her, but it’s a process filled with lots of hoops and red tape. I took Taryn to the movies the other day and it started out great. We walked there, and she was so excited and happy. Throughout the movie she was holding my hand, giving me hugs, leaning her head on me, and I remember thinking, “wow, I am so happy and grateful. My life is perfect in this moment.” Then disaster struck out of nowhere. We were in the front left row, and a Dad with his little girl were in the right front row. The movie went quiet, and Taryn could hear the little girl chewing her popcorn. Taryn developed severe Misophonia, and it’s gotten progressively worse over the last couple years. The sound of chewing sets off her fight or flight instincts, and although she tries, she has the communication and emotional regulation capabilities of a two year old. I could see her getting visibly agitated, and tried to get her to leave, even offered to take her to Mc. Donald’s if we left, and told her we could come back and finish the movie another time. She said no, that she wanted to stay. She had been looking forward to the movie for weeks, and didn’t want to leave. The movie got quiet again, and out of nowhere she jumped up and ran over to the little girl and her Dad. She tried to attack them, but the dad stopped her and I was right behind her and grabbed her. She tried to go after them again, and I grabbed her and pulled her down to the floor. I was mortified, and the fact that we were in the front row in a theater full of people made it even worse. I apologized, helped Taryn up, and started pushing her up the aisle, toward the door. All the while, she’s screaming at the top of her lungs. When I walked out, the employee behind the counter gave me a sympathetic look and whispered “it’s ok.” Of course, we had walked… Taryn screamed the whole way home. When we got home, she lost her tablet and printing privileges, leading to her punching me and then hitting herself and biting herself repeatedly, and screaming for hours but the consequences stuck. I was overwhelmed, embarrassed, and generally overstimulated, but I kept calm and stayed even throughout the entire process, somehow. The next day, I woke up to someone sending me a screenshot from a post the father made. I instantly started crying. I am so grateful to live in a community with such amazing and understanding people. All of the comments passed the vibe check. I’m also so grateful they were so understanding and am happy to report that the little girl was unfazed. Taryn had a mental health assessment last week, and meets with a licensed clinician on Monday and a case manager the following week. The clinician will be able to help make a plan to get Taryn the best care she needs, and the Case Manager will help us put it into action. This is a hard transition for all of us, but I’m so grateful to have her home and to be able to get her the help and services she needs. She isn’t a bad kid. She’s actually really funny, really smart, and super talented. She just struggles with a lot of things we take for granted.
