Gweru. 23 April ,2025. Enroute to the great city of Bulawayo AKA Skies, The City of Bulawayo Wednesday, I couldnโ€™t help but take a long, hard look at whatโ€™s become of Gweru. Gweru City Council ๐Ÿ˜ซ๐Ÿ˜ณ Now look, Iโ€™m not one to criticise just for the sake of it. But truth be told, what I saw wasnโ€™t pretty. Shocking? Yes. Surprising? Not really. Iโ€™m part of the generation that knew Gweru when it was a beacon of Zimbabweโ€™s Midlands. One of the most organised, functional, clean cities in Zimbabwe ,in fact, it wouldnโ€™t be too far fetched to say in the entire SADC region. Solid infrastructure. Order. A city council that didnโ€™t just collect rates, they actually worked. Fast-forward to now? Itโ€™s like stepping into a time machine! Shanty structures creeping right up to the main highway. Zinc and wire where there used to be brick and polish. Potholes deep enough to host bream. Rusted light poles hanging on for dear life. Broken robots (traffic lights) if they exist at all. Dust for days. The โ€œCity of Progressโ€ has regressed so badly, itโ€™s flirting with warzone aesthetics. But hey, if you think Gweru is badโ€ฆ wait until I show you Kadoma. Arguably the worst city in the country right now.
