It shows that the Election Commission has become the fiefdom of one person, Gyanesh Kumar. There are three Election Commissioners, and the other two have repeatedly raised objections to decisions of the Election Commission. Yet Gyanesh Kumar continues to do what he wants and ignores the other two Election Commissioners. AISA president Neha Bora was detained by Delhi Police on Friday as students and civil society groups gathered at Jantar Mantar to protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Bora was among scores of protesters detained after police stopped the demonstrators from entering the designated protest site, saying they did not have permission to enter. The protest, organised by AISA along with civil society groups, follows The Indian Express’ investigation into internal objections raised by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi over decisions linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Speaking to The Quint before her detention, Bora spoke about the protesters’ demands and the police restrictions on the demonstration.

Supreme Court Judge-EC Link adds a new controversy to the debate around Gyanesh Kumar. Justice SC Sharma whose son is a counsel for the EC in M.P heard a critical case challenging the appointment of the CEC & ECs, with no disclosure on his son's links to EC. Gyanesh Kumar is a respondent in the case. The lawyer for the petitioners Gopal Sankaranarayanan points out that Gyanesh Kumar was already in the EC, when a few months later, Justice Sharma's son was registered as counsel for EC. He asks why no disclosure was made and whether Justice Sharma's fellow judge knew.
