Ok, I quite liked New Delhi Times. But I have one question: did bars like this actually exist in 1980s Delhi? and were journalists meeting their sources there 🤨 The film nails so much about the business of news, politics, the pulls and pressures. Honestly, better than any journo movie we’ve had in years. My fave dialogue? A scene where the editor wrestles with that quintessential doubt: what real difference is he making to the world with his journalism. And his photojournalist friend responds: “Tumhaari mushkil pata hai kya hai… tum log editorial main cheenk te ho…aur chahte ho sarkaar ho zukhaam ho jaaye.” 👏🏽

I never thought I would become part of this “salon racism trend,” that’s going around social media…nor did I ever WANT to ever become a part of this trend. Yesterday, my daughter and I attempted to go get our nails done. We walked into the nail salon, someone was being helped at the counter to be checked out, & someone was sitting on a chair by the door, or were just waiting on someone else to finish getting their nails done, (as though they’d already been assisted, but hadn’t had their service completed yet). My daughter simply asked how long the wait was for 2 full-sets and one pedicure…she was told it would be 15 minutes. We did this BEFORE we sat down. The woman in the chair IMMEDIATELY said, “I know you see me sitting here…how you gonna just walk in & jump right in front of me?” To which I responded, “you’ll be alright.” She then shot straight up, began to cause a scene, she stomped to the back of the salon…the whole time she was going on about how she wasn’t going to stay and wait to have her nails done. She was being rude and disrespectful, but I wasn’t even fully aware of what was occurring. You see…when a normal person goes to a salon & would like to receive services…you go up to the counter to see how long the wait is (like my daughter and I did when we entered). You don’t walk in & sit in one of the chairs, expecting for people to drop what they are doing to attend to your every need. If there is a line, you get up off your ass, & get in the line…otherwise it just appears that you are not a paying customer…waiting for a paid service, yourself, it appears that you are just sitting there, waiting on someone else to finish getting the mani-pedi that they have paid for. Then again, a “normal person” wouldn’t have completely lost their mind simply because we asked how long the wait was, before we sat down…because we asked in the way a normal person does. A normal person would have calmly stated, “Excuse me, but I have been waiting.” It was clear that she was there prior to us entering the salon, so it wouldn’t have been a problem at all. However, this individual chose to act like a wildebeest. She took off…straight to the back of the salon, in order to get her friend…whose nails weren’t even completely done, because she was now refusing to get her nails done here. All because we walked in and asked how long the wait was. That was it. I’ve seen stories of people being racist like this on social media, but I have never actually encountered this in real life, & I never expected to receive this type of treatment in real life…especially in small-town, USA…yet, here we are. A grown-ass black woman, stomping out of a nail salon, while exclaiming that we “make her ass itch,” (eww, girl) and then accused us of other things (in the presence of my infant grandson, no less). To which my daughter did respond, “nope, I wasn’t,” because after everything that she just did…after the huge scene that she just caused…why should we be expected to say absolutely nothing? This racist display left my daughter so upset that she didn’t even want to get her nails done. This is not the country that I grew up in any longer. 😢😢

PUBLIC CAUTION 🚨 "This is to alert the public about a girl who identifies herself as Audril Perkins, or Akos (suspected false name), who advertises online as a househelp/domestic worker. She was employed on Saturday, 17/01/2025, mainly to help care for and feed our two children, as my wife has been away for sometime. She came with a very small handbag with only few clothes in it, which was unusual for a live-in help. She also had very long hair, long nails, lashes, and inappropriate attire. I immediately made it clear that she would need to dress appropriately and remove the hair, nails, and lashes, which she obliged and did by the next morning. This made me lower my guard as I thought she was a good person who just needed some guidance, since she appears very young. She said she’s 19, completed SHS and from Kumasi, but in Accra to seek for a job. She’s squatting with a friend in east legon while on a job hunt. I requested that she comes along with a family/guarantor, and she said her Mom will accompany her but later claimed when she arrived that her mom was attending a funeral and would visit the coming weekend with her belongings. She provided a phone number for her mother (0596143081), but I called 3 days continuously but there was no answer. I asked her about it and she mentioned that her mom is forgetful sometimes and might have misplaced her phone but she would give me her sister’s contact instead, unfortunately I forget to follow up instantly. While she was here, she slept in the kids’ room alone, where my wife’s locked wardrobe, boxes, and a large luggage bag were kept. There is CCTV coverage throughout the house except inside that room. By Tuesday, 20/01/2026, I noticed suspicious behavior: She spent excessive time locked inside the room. She never “slept” with the lights off and She had to unlock the door from inside each time I called (I assumed perhaps she’s had some bad experience in the past which has prompted that, so I didn’t think much of it ) On Wednesday morning, 21/01/2026 I went to the kids room just to check around and I discovered my wife’s old clothes carefully hidden under and around the bed. When questioned, she gave an unconvincing explanation but the kids were getting late for school so I asked her to return the clothes to the bag she picked them and said we would discuss it after I return from dropping the kids at school. At this point she had only lived with me for only 4 days. By the time I returned, I found that she had broken into part of the wardrobe and fled, carrying my wife’s large luggage bag filled with, Clothes, Handbags, Perfumes, Cash, Jewelry, etc. The incident has been reported to the police, and shes captured on CCTV carrying the bag out, all relevant evidence have been submitted. She is advised to report herself and return all stolen items, as the matter is now with the Ghana Police Service. Anyone with relevant information about her whereabouts or identity is kindly urged to assist. Please share widely to help prevent others from falling victim."

We have a big tree by the front window of the bedroom… every morning I wake up at 7am to the cutest little chirps and conversations from all the birds who call it home. It’s one of the many small moments of joy that start my day… Did you know: 1️⃣ compared to urban noise exposer, hearing birds chirp has been shown to reduce stress levels (cortisol) by as much as 20% from as little as 5 minutes of exposure. This counts even if you hear it through in unnatural settings (like through headphones or on the TV). 2️⃣ in studies, anxiety dropped up to 25% when people were exposed to the sound. 3️⃣ positive affect increased by 25-35%. Participants report higher feelings of calm, safety, and optimism. The sound of birds has also been shown to help people recover faster from stress inducing interactions/situations. And if you’re dealing with mental fatigue or screen overload, listening to birds chit chat away, participants found themselves feeling mentally refreshed 25-40% faster than those who had listened to the hum of traffic or complete silence.
