Now that’s the cherry on top of an already stacked day! A little suction vortex tornado intercept? That’s wild .. and rare! Those tight, fast-spinning little vortices can be super intense for their size.

The most insane tornado video of all time. This tornado made the spookiest sounds I have ever heard on April 30, 2024 in Westmoreland, KS as it terrorized the small town. The violent suction vortex sucked a manhole cover out of the road and it was rated EF3.

Check out this intercept of an EF3 #tornado at birth in the Dominator 3! Note the suction vortex that develops right in front of the vehicle as the dynamic pipe drills toward the ground. Check out the incredible hook-shaped trench from the violent suction vortex that slammed the Dominator 3. It almost appears as if the launch/Dominator barrier/gap in the terrain intensified the vortex on approach to the vehicle. The vortex hit the front of the vehicle with the anemometer in back measuring 132 mph northerlies. The suction vortex was moving at 62 mph, with 124 mph of shear from the back to the front of the Dominator 3 causing it to spin while in park. This is just th cusp of the ground-breaking science data from this intercept Will Clay LocalMan Weather

Final approach to the dust buster wedge #tornado with accidental probe launch in the rear inflow jet. The traffic and pedestrians delayed us about 60 seconds or we would have had a direct intercept. We spent a little too much time with the first 5-6 tornadoes with rapid cycles. Full wedge video:

20 YEARS AGO TODAY we intercepted the Manchester, SD F4 #tornado with a classic donut vortex excited by the vertical winds. Just after this, Tim Samaras positioned north of the tornado and deployed his Turtle probe, measuring a world record pressure deficit.
