There are ways to make vegan pad thai. Sour tamarind sauce, tofu, chives, bean sprouts are already vegan. Soy sauce is OK for making the vegan version. Using red fermented tofu (taokaoan) to substitute salted shrimp is one of the traditional way. No one meshed the silky tofu.
