They're totally going to switch to "Hamas is ISIS" now. It's been good while it lasted, folks.

I repeat: This loser does NOT represent Hamas or the resistance. He resides in Turkey and is almost certainly coerced by Turkish intelligence to make these statements following the backlash Turkey faced for supporting ISIS terrorists in Syria. End of discussion.

This might be the best explanation I heard for "why Oct 7" and, surprisingly, it comes from Ami Ayalon, former head of the Shin Bet, Israel's secret service, and commander-in-chief of the Navy. Here what he says (this is the first video, there are a couple more below which you'll really want to watch): He says the "most important cause [of Oct 7]" was "the political paradigm", whereby Israel's policy was "divide and rule", meaning Israel "had to make sure Palestinians would not have a unified leadership" and could therefore always say "nobody to talk with, nothing to talk about". Concretely "in order to do it [Israel] had to make sure Hamas would go on controlling Gaza and the Palestinian authority the West bank", and incite them to "fight each other". This is why Israel "enhanced and assisted Hamas, transferred money, etc." As a result of all this Hamas "got the Palestinians' support" because "they became the only administration who fought against the Israeli occupation and for the purpose of Palestinian freedom" while Fatah and the Palestinian authority became perceived as "Israeli collaborators". In his assessment "between 70 to 80% of the Palestinians are supporting Hamas, only because Hamas is perceived as the one who fight for [their] freedom." He says Israel completely misunderstood the situation before Oct 7 because it measures "hardware" whilst Hamas measures "software", meaning that after every fight between Israel and the Palestinians, success for Israel is measured in "losses in human life, in military installations, in military infrastructure" whereas what Hamas measures is "the support of the people." As an illustration he says that in May 2021 - when there was fighting during 2 weeks and around 300 Palestinians were killed (to 17 on the Israeli side) - Israel thought that Hamas "suffered a huge loss and a huge military defeat" but from Hamas's standpoint it was "a huge victory" because this led to Hamas, for the first time, getting "more than 50% of the support from the Palestinian people."

I want to share this video from my trip to Syria two weeks ago to give you an idea of what half of the country looks like and more of an understanding of how beyond absurd it is for President Trump to say that Syria should take on Hezbollah. Aside from Syria being utterly physically and economically shattered, there is also the fact that it too is currently being occupied by Israel, who started bombing and grabbing more land the minute the regime of Bashar al-Assad fell. Worth remembering that the former Syrian regime, despite being part of the “axis” kept its border with Israel pretty quiet. Odd dynamic I know, but yes the old Syria facilitated the movement of weapons to Hezbollah while at the same time had a quiet deal with Israel and the US. As a senior official said to me back in those years, its better the devil we know who will stick to the status quo with Israel. Since al-Sharaa toppled the Assad regime, Israel has been regularly bombing and grabbing more Syrian land under that good old “national security” argument, even though al-Sharaa has repeatedly stated that he has no intention of attacking Israel and has in fact been rather passive on Israel’s actions. And yes he, the current government, many Syrians might hate Hezbollah for the role they played in propping up Bashar al-Assad and fighting with the former regime, but the sheer ludicrousness of suggesting they trot over to Lebanon and get rid of Hezbollah to help Israel is mindblowing, and not just from the Syria side but also can you imagine what Israel would do if the people whose military capabilities its bombing and “weakening” in Syria just showed up on its border with Lebanon?

⚡️Syrian President: Hezbollah’s Intervention in Syria Was a Mistake, but Dialogue Remains Necessary Interviewer: Would you accept sitting down with Hezbollah at the negotiating table? -Syrian President: If that serves Lebanon’s interests and secures Syrian interests, then why not? -Interviewer: Have you turned the page on the past? -Syrian President: We carry a deep wound. 14 years of displacement and migration. Hezbollah did major things inside Syria. Then the IRGC went to Russia, and brought the Russians into Syria, and they did what all of you saw live on air over the course of 14 years. -Interviewer: So if circumstances required it, would you sit at the negotiating table with them? -Syrian President: I believe in the principle of dialogue, even between opposing sides. Dialogue must remain open and continue, because when dialogue and discussion are shut down, the alternative is war. Dialogue should come first, second, third, and tenth. We have a deep problem with Hezbollah, but we do not want all of Lebanon to die. We want to solve the problem of Hezbollah while keeping Lebanon alive. -Interviewer: What would you say to the Shia community in Lebanon? -Syrian President: I believe Hezbollah’s entry into the conflict in Syria was a mistake, and I believe many people recognize that, including figures within Hezbollah itself. Many perceptions can sometimes be mistaken and lead to wrong decisions. But entire peoples end up paying the price. There is a deep Syrian wound. People are still searching for the remains of their children in burial sites, on roadsides, and in mass graves. Hezbollah was a participant in the crimes that took place in Syria. However, we do not want Lebanon to fall into what Syria fell into in the past, because the consequences of wars and conflicts are painful and bloody. It is time for the region to move beyond wars and conflicts and transition toward development and reconstruction. -Interviewer: What would you say to the Shia sect in Lebanon? Syrian President: First, there must be a careful review of what happened in the past, because returning to the truth is better than persisting in falsehood. There must also be a search for solutions that ensure the security and well-being of the Shia community in Lebanon. The Shia community in Lebanon needs a process of rescue within the Lebanese situation, and Lebanon itself must be rescued alongside it. God knows that I am sincere in this regard, because the loss of any component of Lebanese society is a loss for the entire region. I do not subscribe to the idea that all Shias in Lebanon are Hezbollah. We hear many things and receive many messages from here and there. I believe there is a very significant opportunity to stop the war in Lebanon, to create a safe environment in the country, to reach political and sectarian consensus, and to emerge from the turmoil that Lebanon is currently experiencing.
