Yeah I need to go to sleep because I totally read that as butthole lol

handmade for sure, the machine one made me a little sad after seeing how the tailor in the first clip elegantly created smooth and nearly identical looking buttonholes

Even if most people might not notice the difference, an appreciation for true craftsmanship is something universally felt.

That’s a very poor buttonhole machine. They make much better ones that use a cording thread that is a very close proximity to the handmade version, but those machines run over $30k. The higher end made to measure suits use those instead. I do love the hand version though.

I find them equally beautiful 🤷🏾♀️ The machine itself is the work of hundreds of unknown artists. Now, think of a string of thread being used in the machine … so many lives … so much beauty… and passion… Hard to judge ♾️

I can make a buttonhole. I am not a good seamstress, but I'm pretty good at fixing things, darning, etc. My grandmother taught me. I always prefer handmade.

The human element is more beautiful

The hand stitched are beautiful in their tiny differences which proclaim the art of a skilled human.

Hands-down the hand stitched. They look so much cleaner, but knowing that someone put in such excellent work and skill to make them look so good means a great deal to me. Would that I could afford clothing with hand-stitched buttonholes.

What's the purpose of the basting stitch at the beginning?
