Hanley - Inability to Play Forward Through Lines A lot is wrong with the opening goal but what is very clear, in a back 4, Grant Hanley cannot play at this level with the ball: · Scared to Provoke a Press · Square Passes into McKenna · Midfielders then...

Not just the passing its his body shape when he receives a pass…its always clsrd so he can only play the way he’s facing, makes the opposition press so much easier

Look at the pass to McKenna off the freekick too... a dead ball and he kicks it into the ground and scuffs it to him. A professional footballer with international & Premier league experience

what a load of nonsense... not once in the clips you showed did Hanley do anything wrong. Granted he could maybe have done something different, but likely been told not to put Ralston under pressure early on. Topped of by blaming Hanley for McLean's error.

Ralston awaiting the pass like.

I'm happy to diss the big donkey, but most of this is nonsense. Two of the videos you highlight show how we get forward from his passes. Midfielders come deep to get the ball all the time, too. Most of the instances you showed, the only option was Ralston.

Damage of going back or parallel 9 times out of 11 inside the first 6mins to invite them on top & then that drop causing the goal 👌 That's not nonsense, it's a direct cause. All the positive forward passes were from McKennas balls on the ball & willingness to play forward and with a positive body shape

You a better coach than me, how on earth does that fat usless caveman get a game? How is Ralston and McLean playing too? I need to understand as my neruodivergent brain is going overtime on it

Tbh, from this, I can't understand Hanleys involvement. McLean is a good player but maybe race ran. Ralston was actually really good last night barring 1 moment of madness

Nice to see some actual analysis rather than should people shouting how bad players are, or blaming manager. Thanks really makes sense 👏🏻

Pressing, transitions and goals in Canada! After the hiring of Jesse Marsch this week by Canada Soccer , there has been lots of talk about pressing and transitions in the football community. This is THE style of play that we have used for the last 5 years with Alliance United FC in @L1OMens and will give you some insight in how this can look. We went away from the 'possession' based 1-4-3-3 that everyone has been using as the 'best way' to develop players and win games. Many say this is the 'right way' of playing. However, we use the players' abilities and inabilities as the starting point and based on players produced in Canada, within our youth system, this is the way we think will get us the best results and help our players get to the next level. You need to understand youth development in our country to understand what is and what is not being taught to young players. This is not a negative outlook, it is just looking at the reality. Many mistake this style of play as just non-stop pressing and chaos. Yes, these two aspects are important but it is a much more deliberate and planned way of playing that is used to predict where the opposition will play the ball, where the ball can be dictated and what areas the opposition leave open for transitions when they attack. In 2019, I was introduced to Ernst Tanner former Academy Director of Red Bull Salzburg and current Philadelphia Union Sporting Director that has led the club to being one of the top clubs in MLS and arguably the best academies in North America the last few years. Both organisations are known for their pressing and fast transitions in addition to producing top players. He became a mentor to me and gave me insights and education on this style of play. He has changed the way I look at football. Every season we try to recruit players that can play this style that I will describe below and we do not waiver in the way we played. Every game since 2019 Alliance United FC have played either in a 1-4-2-2-2 or a 1-4-4-2 midfield diamond....every game. We have no secrets in how we play. We focus on defending, pressing, forcing teams into mistakes and transition football. It is important to understand that we do not care how much possession we have and we actually want the opposition to have the ball most of the time. Stats in football show that only when a team has the ball 70% or more in a match their is a correlation to winning. Anything less is not correlated to winning in a certain match. In addition, 80% of goals are scored under 5 passes or less and under 10 seconds when regaining possession. We follow the trend! So, here are some important points based on the video: a) Pressing higher up the pitch when possible. All 11 players are committed to the team intention (principles) and if anybody is not committed and does not contribute to this style of play, they do not play. There is no leeway on this. Either you are in 100% in or you are not. All it takes is one player to not commit and the plan will not work. If we do not win the ball on the high press, everyone is to drop behind the ball as fast as possible to restart the press closer to our goal. b) Based on the opponent's scouting we press certain players and decide if will press closer to the sideline and 'pin' the player to the sideline or we dictate the passes and dribbles centrally and 'surround' the player to win the ball in central positions. We also decide if we will sometimes drop lower for the opposition to advance so we can play behind them when winning the ball. This is done if we scout that the opposition centre-backs are slower than our two strikers. This means we will 'outrun' them in the space they leave behind. c) When winning the ball we want to exploit space behind their backline as the priority which means that a player(s) need to be passing options behind the backline and preferably centrally which is closer to the goal, players winning the ball has to look to play the ball to the player furthest up the pitch. Possession is not a priority but scoring goals as fast as possible is. d) When winning the ball we stay as central as possible with passes and dribbling. We use the width of the penalty area (44 yards) as the preferable dimension when transitioning. We want to stay within this width. The wider the team plays the ball, the more time the opposition has to block the middle. PLAY AS VERTICALLY AS POSSIBLE! The emphasis is to get the ball to the two strikers and play 1v1 against the CBs. e) We know that most youth players grow up playing against a 1-4-3-3 which means there is one central striker meaning the centre-backs one back press and one can cover. Against 2 strikers this is not possible and many centre-backs do not have the ability to play 1v1 with space behind them. They are not taught the cues to step and press or drop to protect space behind them. They are never taught at youth level. We exploit this deficiency. e) All 11 players must get up the pitch to close the spaces if we lose the ball from our attacking transition so the opposition cannot transition against us and we can counter-press. f) A goal is the best outcome based on the objective of attacking but at the minimum we want to get a shot on goal from a transition. This is a quick overview of a different way of playing football that Canada will see with the Men's National Team.

Rangers v Celtic - Game-Plan No matter your opinions on Clements' Style of Play, there is a game-plan & method to how we approach games. Before we start, it's absolutely not the football style I like watching, I much prefer playing out from the back & breaking through lines to create phased attacks. Rangers Yesterday: - Go Direct with Numbers in the Attack - Collect 2nd Balls in Dangerous Areas - Let Celtic have the Ball & Press on Inverted FB Trigger Jack Butland Distribution ----------------------------- - 27 Long Ball's Yesterday - 5 Were Successful - 3 Were Picked up 2nd Balls and Attacks A Punt in the 2nd Half directly contributed to the Celtic Goal & for me the decision-making is either suspect or the Manager wants us to not play/overplay. Raskin and Diomande are always wanting to show & get on the ball but seem to constantly be ignored. Diomande & The Press --------------------------- Very clear that yesterday Diomande & Raskin were given a dual role: - Man-Mark The Celtic 8s - Jump to Press on Inverted FB - That was the trigger for the goal When it works, it's great but it does demand they both cover 13.5km+ per 90 which seems extreme with midweek demands. Overall -------------------------- i hate the idea Celtic are allowed so much time to play & we don't try to play the same way: - Celtic had 64% Possession - Celtic Completed 400 Passes - Celtic Passing Accuracy was 84% v 67% for us - Celtic Won the Cup All this telestration is done using Once Sport

Ferris State HC Tony Annese - GT Counter Triple Option - Quarterback Fundamentals... Catch the ball and make a 1/8th turn to face the DE you are reading. Stab the ball back off of your back hip. Mesh with the RB while reading the DE. The DE must squeeze hard enough to tackle the RB in order for you to pull the ball. If he does pull and seed the ball at your chest. Attack the pitch key's outside shoulder (1st man outside the tackle box). If he darts to the slot keep the ball. If he stays with you, pitch the ball and avoid the hit. -Running Back Fundamentals... Take 2 shuffle steps for depth (almost like a OT pass set). Wait for the ball to be brought back to you. Once it is, track behind your pullers making sure to keep a big pocket so the QB can get a good mesh. Once you get the ball follow your pulling tackle and fit off of his block. Get upfield at the first opportunity. -Slot Fundamentals... The motion timing is on the slot on this play. Motion as late as possible to still get in pitch position (we would try to motion at the snap on this play but depending on how fast each slot is they may have to cheat it a bit). Motion at the QB's heals and run full speed. Once you get into pitch phase yell for the ball to let the QB know you are there and stay in pitch phase till you get the ball. -Perimeter Blocking - On this play we will switch block with our WR and Slot. That means the WR is going to block the high safety and the Slot will block the corner. We leave the OLB as the pitch key. We still want to make sure we are square to the man we are blocking so the slot will go flat down the LOS until he gets to the same vertical plane as the corner and then he will climb to block him.

Uzenenye!📝 Possession with purpose: You have a very competitive team here. You just have to fix the goalscoring problem. ■ We haven't lost our ability to create chances, which is important. They just come from clear repeated attacking patterns and control than just kicking the ball forward. ■ We are able to progress both wide and central. We still need to work on looking for that "better option" when we have the ball around the opposition box. ■ We create chances through good movement and passing. ■ There are moments of patience on the ball, and there are moments of continued direct attacks. We put pressure on the opposition defense persistently. The ideas are not dominant as yet, but they are clear. We are quick once we find those pockets to progress. We have those small triangles in wide areas. ■ In Central midfield, they will improve with time and a few other clear factors we need to solve. ■ We need to improve the balance in some key areas. Work on our rushed passes. Even in quick transitional moments, we sometimes rush a pass that kills the attacking momentum. You still need well-timed passes and a good selection of passes in key areas to create better scoring chances. So decision-making will forever be at the center of everything we want to achieve in the field of play. ■ Sometimes, your teammate hasn't really completed a run for you to release a pass, but we make that pass anyway. Small details. ■ Once our match sharpness and overall team chemistry improve, we will increase the quality of key actions across the field. If you don't abandon your principles to dominate and control games, you will create chances, and it won't be by luck, but it will be by design. ■ The team will find rhythm, and when results come, they will be consistent. ■ We have worked on the spaces between players to some degree, and you can see how quickly we win the ball back. There is little space for the opponent to breathe after winning the ball. Even in the Netherlands, we never sat deep, we always pressed every angle on the pitch. ■ We are aggressive, and the close proximity relationships we are building are helping us in regaining possession quickly. ■ They are not yet perfect, but we have made some progress from how tactically confused we often looked last season. We are patient this side. There is good progress in the team. I believe in teams that grow, and growth doesn't move from zero to ten. You need to be patient and build each step at a time. Protagonist Tiki-taka in motion!❤️✌🏾

Self Toss short-hop feeds drill. 1 hop and 2 hop variations. Ball hit at you, declared backhands and glove side picks. A player can get a lot of reps in a very small space. Keys: in order to be on time to the short hop, the toss can’t be too far out front, too low or too fast. You have to start low, play low and move low (with precision feet). Why? Everything happens really fast, especially 1 hop rep variation. If you are late, you get an in-between hop. Really late and/or very lazy feet … you get a big hop. We are not working fielding either of those hops in this drill. Be on time to the short hop. Another key: On ball tossed directly in front (grounder at you) it prevents exaggerated “rounding off” the ball. Not enough time before ball hits the earth and you have to be there on time to the 1” hop. This creates a much more realistic game like rep and approach to the ball. We use a line in video to show how the alignment works. Notice how he is set up with left ear near the line. He is “preset” as far off center as he would need to get on a game rep. Left ear or left shoulder is as far off center as you ever need to get to read speed and hops at ball hit right at you. (Left handed throwers are opposite ear). If you do this drill with baseballs and a target on a net, you can finish the play with a throw and follow. Really creative and you can do this same self feed drill or your own variation to work on your double play “feeds” or slow rollers. Another variation is throwing a ball off a wall. But walls are not always available. Especially when using a baseball. We are using a tennis ball in this video. Dirt Bro Baseball

Ferris State HC Tony Annese - Mesh (QB/Ball Carrier) & Motion Fundamentals QB Mesh Fundamentals - Regardless of play, the first thing the QB needs to do to make sure he has a good mesh is stab the ball back off his hip towards the ball carrier as far as he can. - His arms should be straightened with his eyes at the HOK. - The ball should move with the back through his track. - If the ball is pulled the decision must be made by the time the ball gets to the QB's front hip. Ball Carrier Mesh Fundamentals - The potential ball carrier is the one that is responsible for his track. He needs to make sure his is at the mesh point that the QB is creating. - He must maintain a pocket that is firm enough to secure the ball but loose enough that the QB can pull the ball if the read is a pull read. - Do not deviate from the track until you fully clear the mesh. - If you do not get the ball then track away from the HOK and make him chase you. Motion Fundamentals - All of our motions start up at FULL SPEED! It is incredibly important to make every motion at full speed so the QB has a consistent timing. - The QB is responsible for sending the motion back on every play except for the triple option. - This allows us to control each motion easier. - Every Jet motion should be timed as if the jet back was getting the ball regardless of play. - The motion back will change his depth based on play. - This allows us to use motion with a multitude of schemes. - The motion stops at different spots on different plays and each perimeter player must understand where he should stop for each play.
