Tensions flared a block from Gracie Mansion as far-right anti-Islam activist and Jan. 6 rioter Jake Lang holds a protest against Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Lang is driving around in a uhaul van. Counter-protesters confronted the group, leading to several heated exchanges and brief physical altercations as NYPD officers moved in to separate the sides and restore order. He was driving a rented U-Haul and livestreaming the entire time. Police first stopped him for texting while driving during the livestream. Counter-protesters quickly gathered at the scene. Nihang Sikhs, who had come to support the CJP protest, are now also saying that there are goons among the protesters who are vandalizing police vehicles and attacking police personnel. The Nihangs have said that the protest should remain peaceful and that such violence has no place in it. They may withdraw their support for the CJP protest, as they have repeatedly said that some people at the protest are consuming drugs, something they say they cannot support.

BREAKING: Peaceful protestors arrested outside the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool Yet more peaceful protesters are being arrested today and hauled from the streets by police - a scene which just a few months ago would have been shocking but is quickly becoming the norm. This is absolutely not a normal situation, and we cannot let it become so. This is a serious violation of our right to protest, happening in front of our eyes right here in the UK. Amnesty International deployed observers to monitor today’s protest who confirmed that once again the protest was conducted entirely peacefully. These arrests should not be happening. It’s clearly both ridiculous and seriously disproportionate for police to be targeting and arresting people for sitting down, quietly holding a sign. There are serious human rights concerns around not only the proscription of Palestine Action, but also the chilling consequences this decision has had. People are being silenced and peaceful protesters are being pulled from our streets into police vans. The UK's overly broad terrorism laws are being misused to suppress free speech.
