2004, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Family Computer in Japan, Nintendo released the “Famicom Mini” series for the Game Boy Advance. The lineup was organized into three collections: 1.A collection of Famicom classic masterpieces 2.A collection of early Famicom titles 3.A collection of Famicom Disk System games For reference, the binder used to store the cartridges was a rare item that could only be obtained through Nintendo Club points. Nintendo has always been a company that understands how to reward its loyal customers and give them meaningful benefits.

Did you know the original The Legend of Zelda was first released on the Famicom Disk System, not NES? Because it came on a floppy disk format, it allowed players to SAVE their progress — a groundbreaking feature at the time. Later on, it was re-released in NES and Famicom cartridge form, and that’s probably the version most gamers experienced first. The floppy disk version of Zelda is originally yellow, but I swapped the shell using a gold cartridge from another game and made myself a golden Zelda floppy disk. Pretty cool, right?
