I'm honestly convinced that after the backlash of this episode, the anime decided to let Ash win the Alola League.

It is only a shame that Ash never beat Alain similar to how Dawn never beat Zoey. Their other rivals beat them, but they themselves never did.

Ah yes. The episode where the Pokémon anime fandom used it's biggest Outrage.
