The Knight I gaze upon this city as darkness falls, and my signal in the sky for which I have answered the call, I remember back then when I was a child so small, and to my enemies, I pray for you all. What does turn a man’s heart to stone, and the past sin’s for which he now has to atone, is it a life of pain destined to be lived alone, in the distance, I see a glimmer of chrome that the moonlight has shown. I extend my arms allowing wind to carry me into flight, I focus on a specific area that is now clearly in sight, just above the ribcage, I will strike him with all my might, and when he sees my face I hope the fear reignites. I find myself beginning to enjoy the hunt, to become the instrument that is used so blunt, to embody terror that the wicked must confront, as my knee impacts his torso he utters a painful grunt. I then seize him by the throat and stare deeply into his eyes, he recognizes my anger even through my cloaked disguise, he begins to beg, begins to question me why, for which I offer him a simple reply. It is voiceless, and delivered with a closed fist, his body topples over like a doomed ship as it begins to list, he is only a criminal, for their kind I offer only this, the ability to breathe, and with that I vanish into the mist. This is my city to those of you who don’t know, I’ll share with you a promise I made to myself long ago, never will hatred arise from deep in the darkness below, for the memory of my parents, a debt for which I will always owe. It took me this long to now understand, the unspoken truth of what a man’s honor demands, the words imprinted on my soul the moment this journey began, for I am vengeance, I am the Batman... R.H.
