The Air Zimbabwe Airbus A330-300 that is set to resume the national carrier’s long-awaited direct Harare-London service after a 14-year hiatus has arrived at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare. The inaugural flight to London Gatwick Airport is scheduled for Wednesday. Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Advocate Felix Mhona will preside over the launch ceremony today.

WATCH | Geo Pomona has shared a video on X showcasing some of its street sweeping trucks in operation, highlighting its ongoing efforts to clean the city of Harare. The company said its fleet of sweeper trucks works through the night across the Harare CBD and surrounding areas so that Harare residents wake up to clean streets. According to Geo Pomona, its trucks operate while the city sleeps, sweeping and clearing roads to ensure a tidy environment by morning. The company added that its mandate is simple: to make sure the city goes to sleep and wakes up clean.

The AVERAGE citizen wants to see a CLEAN HARARE… A Harare with clean running water, clean public toilets, & clean street - they don’t care who is doing it. For 25 years, we watched as Chamisa & his colleagues ran down the Sunshine City. President President of Zimbabwe intervened: He fixed the city roads, built an Interchange, brought a PPP to fix water issues, and today he unveiled equipment for a PPP that will focus on Solid Waste Management. Harare is the Capital City of Zimbabwe, it MUST be the epitome of order and modernity! The people of Harare must stop voting for incompetent opposition councillors.

Good news to those who fly to Johannesburg from Harare. The South African airline FlySafair which has started flying into Zimbabwe today has air fares which are more than half the price of fares charged on that route by other airlines. I have just checked their website A return ticket from Harare to Johannesburg leaving tomorrow and coming back on Tuesday next week is R4,022 or US$211. A return Business class ticket from Harare to Johannesburg is R5,635 or US$297, which is cheaper than an economy class ticket on the other airlines on that route who are charging more than US$500 for an economy class ticket. Let us hope and pray that FlySafair won’t be tempted into joining the other airlines into overcharging. The Harare to Johannesburg is reported to be the most expensive route in the world per mile until today with the introduction of FlySafair I looked at the air fare for the Harare/Johannesburg return ticket and found out that the most expensive lag is the Harare to Johannesburg one because of the high taxes charged by the Zimbabwean government. It is cheaper to fly to Harare from Johannesburg than it is to fly from Harare to Johannesburg. A friend explained that “…regulatory fees and taxes are at the centre of this price distortion where a 45 min Domestic ride is more expensive than a 7.5 hour flight to Dubai.”
