How true this was. I commended JT for being honest about running a deficit as the government was running them every year. He said “$10B”, which lined up with previous deficits. You can imagine my shock when his first deficit came in around $40B. Harper was right.

It's going to be painful getting out of this. The public service sector is bloated and many will lose incomes to rebalance the budget. We need to, in effect, manufacture a self-imposed recession to punch our way out of a depression. More pain to follow, but better days ahead.
