RED FLAGS for Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan with black voters per Democrat strategist Yemisi Egbewole: “He is going to have to find ways to moderate, to get those voters that were so attached to Haley Stevens, and frankly, I wanted Haley Stevens to win. I did think that she would be more competitive in a general, but the people of Michigan have spoken, and so to figure out a way to win the working class voters that he speaks so highly of, and also he's gotta win the black demographic. She did overwhelmingly well with black voters. I've had a little back and forth with his campaign about reaching out to black voters, and they believe that his presence with black voters is strong, but presence isn't persuasion, and we know that black voters tend to be more moderate, and I think that he's going to have to focus maybe less on some international issues and more on the domestic issues that do affect the day to day lives.”

The working class didn't fall for Zohran, college grads did. 57% of New Yorkers with a bachelor's degree or higher supported Mamdani, compared with only 39% of working class voters. Education, more than income, signals class because it shapes habits, networks, and outlook long after the degree is earned. Higher education encodes cultural capital: speech patterns, tastes, opinions, and expectations about life. Income can fluctuate across a lifetime; the worldview forged in selective institutions does not. By that standard, college college graduates—regardless of earnings—are not working class.

NBC’s Chuck Todd succinctly in two and a half minutes describes The Alignment in real time to viewers with the new Trump coalition adding working class Hispanics with a focus on the economy and education, not “Latinx”: Todd: Iowa pollster Ann Selzer “thought she found something with...independent women...I don’t know if it’s enough to make up for the loss of voters of color that have — clearly — I mean, that is — that continues, to me, to be the big story of the night is the shift among Hispanics. Look, Hispanic voters are swing voters and I think, you know, what's interesting here it is the Republican Party treated them the same way they treated white, working class voters. They courted them the same they treated white, working class voters. The Democratic Party has spent a lot of time treating it as an identity group. And, you know, whether it's latinx, which sort of fell flat and so, there’s been a lot of hand-wringing inside Democratic circles. A real split like, you know, it was a total misread sort of by the coastal strategists when it comes to how to target working class voters of color. And I think we’re starting to see sort of a working class coalition start to drift to the right. You know, before, Donald Trump had working class whites. Now? He’s adding working class Hispanics and working class — not necessary seeing evidence of working class African Americans — but adding working class Hispanics.
