SELF-esteem can only be *earned,* and the way to earn it is to prove one’s competence to oneself. Responsibility is essential part of that process. Tell a kid he’s awesome his whole life but never give him a chance to prove it *to himself,* and he’ll know deep down it’s a lie.

Agreed... but it's more than self esteem. My kids learned real life skills while growing up. All of them knew how to cook, clean, care for others, change oil, fix fence, wire an outlet, change a wax ring, grow food, hunt, balance their check books and numerous other things by 16.

So easy to incorporate kids into our daily tasks. At some point quickly they take the task over and it makes all our other tasks easier
