Mexican here, very common. In my opinion it´s just a flavour transporter, it doesn't really taste like anything. If I had to describe it, aloe vera texture with a tint of grass for taste.

Nopalito's. Raw, fried and pickled, I always have a big jar of DONA MARIA Nopalitos in the fridge. it was a staple food source for Apache and other tribes in this area. The DONA MARIA pickled nopalitos go great with egg's, beans, salads, or my personal favorite, cheese and crackers.

A lot of Mexican food places in Texas serve grilled or fried cactus. Kinda squishy. Not a lot of flavor in my opinion
