How far is China from its peak with its severe demographic and economic issues. China steals rather than innovating. Chinese people live under the brutal dictatorship of the CCP. The communist had to give up communism and accept enough capitalism to feed their starving people and build the infrastructure you see. They have not given up the authoritarian control and their ambitions.

Is this as true as we're lead to believe? While those buildings are flashy, how full are they? How's the quality? How's the quality of life in rural/ small town China? The CCP is incredibly secretive (and often a source of misinformation); we need to take this w a grain of salt.

I just saw a documentary short on the modern Chinese infrastructure. Beautiful stores and restaurants, but all empty. China fuels its economy on these projects, however, it’s an unsustainable economic model.

I'd definitely argue, without people like Henry Kissinger, China would still be hoeing away in muddy rice fields. The West wanted to show China the errors of Communism, by outsourcing jobs. What ended up happening was us fueling our enemy's economic situation. Then we had internal influence campaigns going on by the USSR, which a certain US political party adapted as part of their core values. This ushered in complacency via bureaucratic bloatware. So while China increased, we "paced" ourselves, resulting in the world live in today. As a side-note, those "China is living in the future" videos are 100% propaganda pushed via bots. If you remember Covid-19, for the longest time China had reported only 25,000 cases of infections, while everyone else was reporting greater numbers. They used these metrics as a means to make a mockery of "The Evil West", weaponizing media outlets to make themselves look good and the rest bad (it was all smoke and mirrors). Only until scrutinization finally happened, did those numbers go slightly up, and I think the final report was ~50,000 total cases (out of a populous of 1 billion+). The same principle is being applied to GDP, where China will report "economic growth". But if you really look at the physical objects which helped "grow" their GDP, it was nothing more than Ghost Cities. But because we use buildings as a measure for growth, by which is an easy "look good" number. It is another measure for how they exploit our own system against us to benefit them.
