Has there ever been a funeral quite like it?

The very best of us , the very best of our traditions, a proper and fitting farewell . It does the heart good to see this Ireland on display. RIP #ShaneMacGowan Maybe your last gift to us was to show ourselves & the world who we really are 🙏🙏🙏

And don’t forget the beautiful job Father Pat done, his readings and his spoken words were unbelievable, he kept it all together and nicely controlled, it was beautiful.

He was brilliant. I loved the massive cheer the congregation gave him when he said he grew up listening to Lizzy, Horslips, the Rats and the Pogues!

It was so beautiful and honest and raw, and so Irish 🇮🇪

It was like the wake and the Mass got mixed up in the tumble dryer!

My thoughts:

The start of a new tradition, dancing in the aisles. The joy of a life lived!

Not the first time. I was at Peter O’Toole’s funeral and his family danced at that, as Peter had done at his own mother’s funeral. 🙂

If you don’t mind an American interjecting, my friends and I loved him and would have loved to be there.

A celebration of a life. Far better than the requim mass my mother arranged for my father in 1991. (Still can't get over the rock concert style roar after 'Fairytale'. The Canon I served at alter for in early 60s would turn in his grave......or would he?).

It was the most religious experience I’ve had for 50 years. The true meaning of it - joy.
