✨ hasanabi explains why he doesn't know how to feel about Gloria Steinem's legacy: "Gloria Steinem is an interesting figure because, in some respects, while she did the unthinkable, the indefensible; worked with the CIA with the deliberate attempt to identify European communist movements, on the other hand her... show more

most people on my tl also feel this way about her.

@hasanthehun I saw this great carousel post from ahbeeolah on insta, it was also a threads post, but for those looking for more info on this topic, this was a good read

@hasanthehun terrible take. she defended her involvement with the CIA. “if I had a choice I would do it again.” “In my experience the agency was completely different from its image; it was liberal, nonviolent and honorable"

@hasanthehun L take for Hasan. She kept feminism from talking about class, and focused it on white women.

You have to take historical context into consideration. A lot of these baby boomers were raised during the Cold War when they were told drop and cover when they were schoolchildren. Get under your desk. She lived through the entire red scare of the McCarthy era. She would’ve been in her very early 20s when that happened. I think people are missing nuance. So yes, she did some work for the CIA for four years. But she was involved in protests with the anti-apartheid South Africa movement. How was her involvement in this protest helpful to the CIA at all? It wasn’t. It actually ran against the interest of the CIA. Furthermore, there have been many people who have actually worked at the CIA and who became whistleblowers. That’s why this take from so-called leftists is so disingenuous. This feels to me as if he read some comments online and decided to go with this just because. There’s absolutely no analysis attached to this.

@hasanthehun Holy shit 😭. He can't even be critical about a CIA agent that deliberately damaged socialist movements abroad because she also advocated for more treats for Americans

@hasanthehun Who gives a fuck what he thinks about it? I don’t.

@hasanthehun Another Jew in hell where they belong

@hasanthehun She infiltrated the black panthers and turned women against the men. She brought feminism to the Black Panther movement.

@hasanthehun This is a good summary of how some feel about Hasan given his 9/11 comments. He apologized. (And she apologized about the CIA). But we don't know exactly how to feel about him or interpret his impact. 💁🏻♀️

@hasanthehun Why would we care if she helped identify European communist movements? SEE? Hasan Piker is a Communist lol Thats the only reason it would be "unthinkable" to him Have you even seen what the fucking Communists did to Europe?

@hasanthehun

@hasanthehun Cesar Chavez type shit

@hasanthehun I had a chance to address her remarks about why young women liked Bernie Sanders diplomatically on this CNN interview 10 years ago.

@hasanthehun doing mental gymnastics about a cia asset is wild. more proof that stalin was right about social democrats being the moderate wing of fascism
