LEFT: v4, mac RIGHT: v18, mac (same render settings...) obviously it's a dark scene so I'm not expecting all detail to be preserved - but in the v5+ versions (including v18 here) the compression FREAKS OUT compared to the v4 which was completely fine, steady, and didn't pop like this

LEFT: v4, windows RIGHT: v18, windows even in scenes where it isn't super dark, we had really nice soft compression on v4, but it's been impossible to recreate, and there's a TON of popping and glitching on all versions v5+. looks minimal while still but in motion it's rly bad

VERY weird discovery - on mac (vp9), the flickering I'm seeing (one of two problems; flicker, and blockiness) is actually a much LESS compressed frame sneaking in amongst the compression... dnxhr hxq example here: these frames all play back to back...

Profilbild von Milo
Milovor 15 Tagen

more obvious here though: it's the compressed, blocky frame, then we get two uncompressed frames of different colours (???) and then back to compressed. @TeamYouTube what would cause this sort of glitchiness?

glad to see someone so committed and full of love for their art that they want to truly get everything perfect and uploaded as intended while filming/editing.

compression aside, looking at the *same* upload on two different browsers will also look different, btw. such is the complicated world of codecs + youtube, unfortunately. just gotta find some sort of middle ground and accept that it won't be optimal everywhere/for everyone

yeah fully aware- the issue is I'm getting same OS, same export settings, same source material, same browser, 1 result of YT compression being clean 2 days ago, and now all results of the compression being garbage ever since :(

@SirCrest any ideas?

@SirCrest 🙏 any ideas would be vv appreciated Brett! have just discovered that the Mac flicker is happening because it's inserting less-compressed frames in amongst the majority of the much more soupy ones, but those v2 v3 and v4 versions never did this. So confused :')

Providing the raw file in the description of the video would be an appreciated workaround! Kind of a workaround. But appreciated nonetheless.

Idk if it's ubiquitous with shorts but YouTube seems to massively prefer MP4 over any other container. I uploaded a 1440p60fps HDR MKV file and HDR never processed (waited two weeks). Uploaded the same exact file as MP4 and HDR processed in two days.

Mac and Windows process colours differently (different colour spaces by default). That'll be your main answer. Also hard to fully comment without seeing how your project was colour corrected as compression reacts differently depending on the LUT/grade.

Profilbild von Milo
Milovor 15 Tagen

am aware colours are different between mac and PC - that's why I used mac to mac and windows to windows comparisons above. Same export settings with same LUT etc behaving differently in different uploads on same system is my main issue

Profilbild von GH

Odd one, are the file extensions always the same or different? i.e, MP4, AVI, etc? Also, YouTube's compression is selective. I have had your issue when I upload a v1 and a v2 but the grade is the same, it can be pot-luck after a point.

My Statement on the Corridor Crew People often link the Corridor Crew's video as proof the MH370 videos are debunked. This is my official response. The Corridor Crew coordinated with Julian Dorey and Danny Jones to ambush me on the Koncrete Podcast without my knowledge. Julian Dorey told me that a 'major studio' was going to recreate the videos, presumably referring to the Corridor Crew. That never happened. Both Dorey and Jones attempted to get me to sign agreements that I would not say anything negative about them and that they could use our interview in any way they wanted. I later found out that this is not normal for podcasts, and was done in bad faith. The interviews were always intended to attack my character and the MH370 case. On the Koncrete podcast, guy named 'Niko' had a prerecorded video where he simply read off old, already addressed debunks stolen from reddit and the metabunk website. No forensic analysis of the videos was done by the Niko or the Corridor Crew. I refuted the claims on the podcast in real time without any preparation. The Corridor Crew are frauds. I can prove in a court of law that they fabricated a fake debunk comparison by claiming a non-matching VFX that is similar on one edge of one frame was a "perfect match" when it's not. I have collected the evidence of the Corridor Crew's fraud, including a copy of their video on youtube. When the MH370 videos are confirmed to be authentic by AARO, the Pentagon, or any other means, I plan to help the families of the victims of MH370 sue Corridor Digital using the Alex Jones precedent and take everything they have for lying about the fate of 239 people. If the Corridor Crew want to do the right thing, they should delete their video and issue a formal apology to myself and the families of MH370 immediately. The MH370 videos are 100% real. The situation is similar to the flight of the Wright Brothers where people don't understand science and therefore conclude what they're seeing must be fake. Just like in those cases, time will vindicate me.

The Counter-Strike Content Scene might have a big problem on YouTube... YouTube removed my video for promoting unlicensed gambling despite it NOT containing any mention of gambling / case opening websites. They refuse to back down and at the same time they REFUSE to specify at which time the "promotion" is located. If they don't give us this information, I will not know how to avoid this in the future, and releasing videos becomes quite scary as I risk the removal of the entire channel despite not doing anything wrong intentionally. This is a extremely frustrating problem to have as I see a multitude of channels directly promote gambling sites and nothing is done to them, while at the same time I chose to NOT take gambling website money to avoid problems like this, it makes no sense. The only thing they have provided us is a link to their policy (I will share this in the post below so you can read it too if you want) which states Direct promotion of gambling is not allowed, but I repeat, there was none. As it was a documentary about a Counter-Strike player - Xantares, there were images of him wearing jerseys that had the names of gambling websites on them, but that is not a direct promotion. I'd like to ask the community to like & retweet this for visibility, and ideally if anyone is in contact with a person on the YouTube team that could give us a good faith explanation of what we did wrong, it would really help out not only just me, but the entire community because if I won't be able to release videos due to fear of getting strikes, I will not be the only creator is affected. At the same time I decided to upload the video here, on X, to invite the community to point out if they see how I broke the YT policy. Maybe I and my team just don't see something obvious, that would be the best case scenario... TeamYouTube

When I saw the mask "Tribes of the Calf" from Kanbas I knew I had to make it into reality. The jewelry and gold really made it stand out for me. Since Sam Spratt's The Masquerade was revealed, I have been spending time sculpting and dissecting the mask to recreate it in 3D as faithfully as possible. I delved into the creation of this mask for many reasons. I love a good challenge and this mask surely was one for me. Creating something in 3D from a 2D image is not easy, and especially when the source has generative nature, some stuff is hard to interpret, but I tried my best to make sure the visual integrity of the mask is as close to the original as possible. Splitting the whole mask into parts, filling the missing pieces so I can build the textures was quite a lot of work. I tried to present the mask in my own style with a slightly different colorway to adapt to the mask itself. Please enjoy this short animation, and turn on sound🔊 This piece is my statement that I am here to stay. That I have a voice that often feels being lost in the void. That I have been creating and posting digital art for over 20 years now and will continue until I'm gone. I have a story to tell and I want to be heard. The space we have here is small, and is shrinking day by day. It doesn't have to be like that. We need to support each other and push ourselves and people here, otherwise we are all doomed. As Kanbas has put in their observation of the mask: "Inspirational. Emotional. Natural." This is what our space can be, and this is me making a statement with this homage. I will share a 4k still below as well as a short video showing the 3D GLB interactive model together with a yt link to the 4k video since compression here is pretty bad.

Burt Lancaster on why Frank Perry was the wrong choice to direct "The Swimmer" (1968) & the directors he felt would have handled it better: "'The Swimmer' (1968) is certainly one of my favorites. It's a John Cheever story and there was the very difficult problem of translating a literary work to the screen. Cheever speaks in the short story of how a man is walking through a lane and he smells a fire, it's an autumn fire; he describes it as the smell of autumn in the air. Well, that kind of thing in writing is lovely, especially in Cheever's phrases, but when you try to get this quality onto film, it requires some kind of approach. I'll say that I don't think Frank Perry was able to do this, and I don't know that any other director would have been. But you certainly need someone like a Fellini or a Truffaut, or someone with that kind of imagination to let the camera also tell your story. Film has its own particular life—regardless of what's actually going on in a film. And it needed some kind of strange, weird approach to capture the audience and make them realize that, in a way, they were not looking at anything real. In talking about the script we would say, "I don't know why two men in white coats don't come take this guy away." It should have been obvious that this man was going through something that was not quite real; it was all part of his imagination. But it was played in a realistic sense—so when you come to the end of that film, instead of being sympathetic and heartbroken for the man, you were surprised and shocked." Elon Musk says Tesla swallows 1.5 GB of video into 2 KB of control. "We really are photons in, controls out. That is the vast majority of your life: vision, photons in, and then motor controls out." Musk reduced the human nervous system to a single equation. That theory runs in every Tesla on the road. "Your Tesla is taking in one and a half gigabytes a second of video and outputting two kilobytes a second of control outputs with the video at 36 hertz and the control frequency at 18." A 750,000-to-1 compression ratio. The car decides which photons matter. "You don't care about the details of the leaves on the tree on the side of the road, but you care a lot about the road signs and the traffic lights, the pedestrians, and even whether someone in another car is looking at you or not looking at you." Then Musk extended the equation past Tesla. The same architecture runs Optimus. **Photons in. Controls out.** Different number of degrees of freedom. A car has steering and acceleration. A robot arm has dozens of joints. Same compression. More fingers on the other side. Musk, who built one Tesla AI engine across two products: "AI is mostly compression and correlation of two bitstreams." The implication: a human, a Tesla, and an Optimus all run the same loop. Musk, looking back at the human equation: "This is what happens with humans." If you're new here, GeniusThinking is a gallery for the greatest minds in economics, psychology, and history. Béla Tarr on how the concept of time works in "Sátántangó" (1994): "Interviewer: Did you have any problems when you first wanted to make the film in the ‘80s? How did you start work on the film? Tarr: It was mostly a political problem. We couldn't start in the ‘80s because of censorship from the communist government at the time, but by the early ‘90s it became possible to do it and it took four years to do, from 1990 to 1994. You have to understand. This man [Lázsló] was living in the Hungarian lowlands, and he saw a lot of things in the reality of how people were living, and of course he transformed it and created this beautiful novel. I understood when I started working on this project that I cannot do any kind of adaptation. I had to go back to the Hungarian lowlands, like him. I had to see how life is going on out there, and I had to find the film language, I had to figure out how I can get the same stuff that he did in the novel. By the end, I spent two years in the Hungarian lowlands filming, I can tell you I know all the houses, I know all f***ing roads, I know everything in this part of the country. By the end of my time there I could find the way to film and afterwards we could use the dramaturgical structure of the novel, and of course we did not have a script, we had only the novel and my vision. That's all we had. Interviewer: What about the sense of time that you found in that place? Tarr: Hey man, if you are sitting in the Hungarian lowlands, I'm sure it's the same in the desert in, let's say, Arizona, when you are out there: there is no time, no distance anymore, you can go hours, weeks, and you don't see anything. You are out of time; you have a different sense of time then when you are living in a town. And so, the slowness of the drama came from this. You know, you have to understand that first you have to know the life of the places and then afterwards you have a feeling for how you have to film it." ("I Am Interested in the World, Not Just in Filming It": Béla Tarr on "Sátántangó", David Perrin, MUBI, 2019) P.S: Remembering the great Hungarian filmmaker, Béla Tarr, on his 71st birthday!

Yes, Ricky was surely the culprit. But only in pushing the button. HE DID NOT HAVE ANY PALM PISTOL IN HIS HAND ! > 1. Nothing is visible between the fingers, but the shadow on the frames 0, or +1 ; > 2. Cutler's hand is half way open, with all fingers positioned forward. Nothing can be held in the open hand position like that. Especially when the hand is in motion. If anything was in that hand, it would simply fall out ; > 3. Most certainly, no weapon can be aimed at the target in this kind of open hand position, even if something could have been in it. Any weapon has to be held with a firm grip, for it to be aimed properly. Any suggesting that a weapon can be aimed form such a completely open hand position is utterly laughable ; > 4. No squeezing action in the hand is visible at all. All fingers remain perfectly stationary ; > > > 5. NO RECOIL action on the hand whatsoever ! Anyone who knows anything about the basic laws of physics, would know that no weapon is ever fired without a recoil action. Even the knowledge of the laws of physics is not required for this understanding. Just the basic common sense should be sufficient. Any one of the points above mentioned makes this palm pistol option impossible. Let alone all of them at the same time. And this evidence is with regards to the hand only. If I were to make the whole list of evidence against the palm pistol, aside of the actual hand itself, it would probably be 30-40 items long. So, I will skip that pages long extended part. I hope that just the above stated is sufficient enough ? But the full length video, with all the frames, each frame by frame examination is coming right up.

Over 1.5 million Muslim pilgrims are performing Hajj this year. When Malcolm X (El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz) performed Hajj in 1964, he wrote “Letters from Mecca.” This is one of those letters: Never have I witnessed such sincere hospitality and the overwhelming spirit of true brotherhood as practiced by people of all colors and races here in this Ancient Holy Land, the home of Abraham, Muhammad and all other prophets of the Holy Scriptures. For the past week, I have been utterly speechless and spellbound by the graciousness I see displayed all around me by people of all colors. I have been blessed to visit the Holy City of Mecca. I have made my seven circuits around the Ka’ba, led by a young Mutawaf named Muhammad. I drank water from the well of Zem Zem. I ran seven times back and forth between the hills of Mt. Al-Safa and Al-Marwah. I have prayed in the ancient city of Mina, and I have prayed on Mt. Arafat. There were tens of thousands of pilgrims, from all over the world. They were of all colors, from blue-eyed blonds to black skin Africans. But we were all participating in the same rituals, displaying a spirit of unity and brotherhood that my experiences in America had lead me to believe never could exist between the white and non-white. America needs to understand Islam, because this is the one religion that erases from its society the race problem. Throughout my travels in the Muslim world, I have met, talked to, and even eaten with people who in America would have considered ‘white’, but the ‘white’ attitude was removed from their minds by the religion of Islam. I have never before seen sincere and true brotherhood practiced by all colors together, irrespective of their color. You may be shocked by these words coming from me. But on this pilgrimage, what I have seen, and experienced, has forced me to re-arrange much of my thought patterns previously held, and to toss aside some of my previous conclusions. This was not too difficult for me. Despite my firm convictions, I have always been a man who tries to face facts, and to accept the reality of life as new experiences and new knowledge unfolds it. I have always kept an open mind, which is necessary to the flexibility that must go hand in hand with every form of intelligent search for truth. During the past eleven days here in the Muslim world, I have eaten from the same plate, drunk from the same glass, and slept in the same bed, (or on the same rug), while praying to the same God, with fellow Muslims, whose eyes were the bluest of blue, whose hair was the blondest of blond, and whose skin was the whitest of white. And in the same words and in the actions and in the deeds of the ‘white’ Muslims, I felt the same sincerity that I felt among the black African Muslims of Nigeria, Sudan and Ghana. We were truly all the same (brothers), because their belief in one God had removed the ‘white’ from their minds, the ‘white’ from their behavior, and the ‘white’ from their attitude. I could see from this, that perhaps if white Americans could accept the Oneness of God, then perhaps, too, they could accept in reality the Oneness of Man, and cease to measure, and hinder, and harm others in terms of their differences in color. With racism plaguing America like an incurable cancer, the so-called ‘Christian’ white American heart should be more receptive to a proven solution to such a destructive problem. Perhaps it could be in time to save America from imminent disaster, the same destruction brought upon Germany by racism that eventually destroyed the Germans themselves. 1/2
