Have you ever seen an Nginx container packed into a Unikernel and launched on a Firecracker microVM? 🤯 Alexander Jung Alexander Jung showed me today how easy it actually is to turn pretty much any Dockerfile into a unikernel - thanks to the amazing tech the Unikraft folks built.

By the way, this tech is open source and is definitely worth a star 😉

@nderjung Unikraft is black magic. You won’t believe how fast we can resume a pg vm on this thing.

@nderjung What is the use?

@nderjung More isolated and performant "containers" that are extremely well-suitable for scale-to-zero scenarios - the boot time is in milliseconds.

@nderjung Forgive My ignorance.

@nderjung Unikernels have been on my list its a cool concept tbh

@nderjung Yes

@nderjung Wasm vs Unikernel/Unikeaft - how do you see it from practical usage pov? How crazy are the hidden gotchas?

@nderjung Frankly, I'm still struggling to find any justified usage for Wasm except for maybe Envoy plugins or fancy web UIs. And at the same time, Unikernels sound as versatile as Docker containers (which are pretty much the same good old Linux servers).

@nderjung unikraft and other unikernel techs are awesome. I’ve been considering adding unikernel support to You shouldn’t have to give up on WASM or Docker or VMs, you should be able to use any and all of them!

@nderjung Something interesting! Adding to my list to explore :)
