@BrianRoemmele Cinnabar (HgS) was revered in ancient alchemy but proved devastatingly toxic. The Romans used it as a pigment, unknowingly poisoning themselves with mercury vapor. Modern synthetic red dyes like Allura Red AC demonstrate how chemistry has made vibrant colors safe.
