@letsreplanet @GeorgeMonbiot I'm worried about the UPF v unprocessed food problem. We've already seen drops in plant-based meat substitute sales, plausibly because people are worried about their ingredient lists. Can precision fermented products be genuinely healthy?

@letsreplanet @GeorgeMonbiot Well done @GeorgeMonbiot. A great perspective on the issue. To be fair, 10,000 years ago humans could domesticate animals for food, but not do precision fermentation, so they only had the one choice. Now that we have a better option we should do that. But it will take time.

@letsreplanet @GeorgeMonbiot Welp, George, you had 2:20 to explain PF & persuade ur audience. You spent 16 seconds ("it's bac-gen protein & fat") and the other 2:04 spinning out an inapt analogy. Ok. All is forgiven, if u tell us what PF is, why it's: good, safe, and near-term do-able. Please & thank you.

@letsreplanet @GeorgeMonbiot Hmm interesting but he kind of glosses over the fact that soy is already a good source of protein and takes a fraction of the land livestock does. Also fermentation produces lots of methane which has around 20 times the greenhouse effect of CO2 so i'm not super convinced

@letsreplanet @GeorgeMonbiot This is brilliant but absolutely dependent on genetically modified organisms - albeit bacteria, yeasts and plants

@letsreplanet @GeorgeMonbiot Fully agree. Precision fermentation has the potential to radically reduce land use and enable large-scale rewilding. Here some interesting companies working with it: - oils & fats from waste biomass @airprotein - protein from CO2 1/x
