Having interviewed some WW2 vets that had encountered those firsthand, yeah, it was insane the overall effect it had.

You dont even need to find WW2 vets to describe being shot at by them these days, the MG3 is still trucking on the steppes against Russians today.

They didn’t call the MG-42 “Hitler’s Buzzsaw” for nothing.

There is a reason they called it Hitler's Buzzsaw, and that 8mm bullet packs some punch...

the government was wrong about 762. we need to go back to actual rifle calibers

Wear eye protection guys, even if you are just sitting behind a berm. They have saved more than a few eyeballs from getting replaced by glass ones.

Look around your office and ask yourself how many of these guys you can imagine wading through the surf at Normandy through a hail of gunfire The imagination boggles. Then again maybe it would have been the same in the 1940s, idk

MG42 vibe/intimidation is second only to the A10

I remember that one time we had some surplus ammo and we shot 6 MG3s (same gun, but with 7.62x51mm ammo (MG2) and anti helicopter/drone sights (MG3), and goddamnit that shit was scary when you were BEHIND the guns.

I'm not really a gun guy by any definition, but man I wanna shoot an MG42 before I die so bad.

My grandfather told me a story of taking a trench from the Germans then having to defend it from a counter attack, using the German's MG42's against it. But when friendlies behind heard the MG42 they assumed the assault had failed and called in mortars on their position.

I still want one...original, or a more modern MG3 [though I'd prefer the MG3 cause I don't stock 8mm but I do have Three Oh HATE in abundance]

I'm really surprised the MG42 stopped being a thing. I know the MG4 and 5 exist but I mean mose so the rate of fire and the cartridge used for it.

Me a german conscript in 2001. Never used real guns. Thought it is cool to shoot. Used P8 and G3. First shot with a MG3, only got 4 bullets. Terrified how fast they went out and imagine being on the other side. Never want to be on the bad side of this bastard!

I have never been able to fire less than 8-10 rds. per trigger press and 8mm will punch through a cast iron engine block. Do the math, It would be terrifying to be shot at by one.

There is a reason we copied the MG-42's design in our later machine guns

Watched a MG42 gunner from WW2, he said he would wait to fire at 5 or more soldiers, bursts of 100 rds each stroke of the trigger that would kill or wound everbody in a 20 meter circle.Said with 0 emotion, just matter of fact.

The rate of fire is so impressive it borders on sounding like a slow mini gun if you weren't watching.

My grandfather was Big Red 1 in ww 2. He opened up on the german lead truck with his BAR and walked it across the passenger side , killing him and the drive then a German opened up on him with the 42 and he thought he was going to die but luckily his friend killed him.
