The handle becomes weaker when you put metal pieces into it. For the rest, it's a cool project.

It's a wall hanger after cutting the slots in the handle which weakened the ax handle (as noted by other replies). It's a pretty piece of art. That's why he only swung at the pumpkin and not the wood base it was sitting on.
