He then went to the shop to buy a drink before returning to his accommodation, the court heard. "Once at the hotel, he was seen dancing and laughing, clearly excited about what he had done," the prosecution claimed. Rhiannon was stabbed 23 times, including 11 blows that penetrated her skull, with other wounds to her chest and defensive markings on her arm. She had called a friend moments before her death, who heard her screams before the line went dead. The prosecution claimed the murder weapon was likely a screwdriver, which has not been found.
