Might be a good idea to get his teeth and gums checked at the vet. One of my cats also smacks quite often and when I read up about it, turns out they might do that because of pain or other not nice sensations in their mouth. (turned out he actually had a damaged tooth and also needs a cleaning). But if he only does it after drinking, maybe he doesn't like the water temperature 🤔
