First off, Clive Davis didn’t discover #WhitneyHouston; her incredible talent was a gift from God, and it was her mother, Ms. #CissyHouston, who helped nurture that gift. I came across 'The #Harvard Report,' officially known as A Study of the #SoulMusic Environment, and learned that the president of Columbia Records had commissioned #HarvardBusiness School to analyze black music back in 1972. What I didn’t realize was that the president of #ColumbiaRecords at that time was Clive Davis—how surprising! The goal of that study was to figure out how to tap into the #blackmusic market since major record labels like #Motown, Stax Records, and #Philadelphia International Records were raking in the profits, leaving white record companies in the dust. They grow up to be music nerds with a vast knowledge of genres and artists.

Former Crusader Josh Black meant so much to the program that we now have an award named after him. He, like Davis Heller, was a 'glue' guy; an unbelievable teammate, person, and player. Our hearts are with the friends and family of Clive Davis, and all the artists and music lovers whose lives he changed with his vision, talent, and generosity. He discovered Aerosmith, an unknown bar band, in 1972 and swiftly signed us to Columbia Records. He stood by us through our resurgence in the 1980s when our future wasn’t promised. He was a great man whose life’s work became the melody of modern culture and whose memory will always be a blessing.
