It’s a sad story, because the shop keeper expects to be cheated. Having had a gun pulled on me at a gas station, by an elderly clerk, when I asked if I could pay with a travellers check, since he wanted $60 deposit paid for the fuel. Much higher than I normally would have paid and I felt uneasy giving him $100 for what would have been $20 ish in cash back in October 2001. In the end after lots of a person who was fearful about the situation he allowed me to to pay $40, with me topping up the car and getting change at the AMPM store, which when collecting my change it turned out he was threatened with paying out of his pocket for any theft as he was not the owner and they regularly had counterfeit cash given!
