I don't think he knows that banks in China are state owned. The CPC doesn't just regulate the banks, they directly manage them.

That makes no sense only ~1% of global transactions use it Chinas money 😆 Better pipes don’t matter unless the world trusts the water. I disagree with him the world is built on TRUST not TECH. Example Even if TikTok is better than Facebook, a German bank won’t move billions using Chinese digital rails unless it trusts the legal and political system behind them. Also yuan (China’s currency) is not freely convertible China has tight capital controls. You can’t move yuan in and out of China without approval or scrutiny China’s system is technically superior … but trust-deficient, … politically risky, … and adoption-blocked. Real-world capital: Stays where there’s trust, predictability, and legal safety.

He is absolutely clueless. He's talking about banks and state like they are distinct entities, while in reality all chinese banks are state owned. wechat payment system almost got banned by government until they had to impose a withdraw fee.

Kind of explains why techbros want stable coin and not central bank digital currencies. With stable coins they can actually grab the rent portion from the banking sector.
