Even as an Irish supporter watching the match I got joy watching that. He had a great game and the look on his face as the gap opened up in front of him was hard not to smile along.

Very poor from RTE to not pick up in fact his mum is from Grange Limerick and his grandfather uncles all live locally and are big Munster supporters.

NFL players do it as part of the tackle process as far as I know. They consider arm-tackling to be soft anyway, so focus on dispossession if they can.
