Don't use the joystick. Tank controls are designed for the D-Pad. I've gotten several people to learn it in less than 5 minutes by just saying that. It's really all there is to it

You’ll get the hang of it quickly! Just walk and run around a safe around for a sec and practice. It’s part of the fun

It takes a bit, but you really will get used to it. The remake’s modernized control stick option actually helped me because it felt so unnatural controlling with the stick and incentives you to learn the d pad, like the game is designed around the tank controls.

I don't know how anyone can play Tank Controls. If the Remake on Steam didn't have modernized controls available I literally would have quit the game 10 minutes in (and even those controls sucked)

It's not too bad when you remember that the direction you push the controller in is the direction you will go regardless of camera. If you push up, you go forward no matter what, left is left, right is right.

Use the dpad for the tank controls

Think of it like sidestepping but needing to turn like you’re moving a whelk of a car. Trust me, you’ll get the hang of it. Especially when the game doesn’t have as much fast enemies as the sequels.
