In 2019, a man using Google Earth to check out his old neighbourhood in Florida discovered the remains of a man who had been missing for 22 years. The satellite images revealed the man's car submerged in the shallows of a lake. The skeletal remains were of William Moldt, who went missing in 1997 at the age of 40 after leaving a nightclub.

Judge Michelle Sisco followed the jury's May 15 recommendation for life in prison instead of death for Sean Gathright, 20; Isaiah Chance, 23; Davion Murphy, 29; and Rashad Murphy, 32. A jury on May 8 convicted Gathright and the Murphys of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and three counts of attempted second-degree murder for three people who were with Charles "Julio Foolio" Jones Jr. when he was shot to death in his Dodge Charger in a hotel parking lot next to the University of South Florida early on June 23, 2024. Gathright also was convicted of evidence tampering. Chance was convicted of the murder and conspiracy charges. He was not charged with attempted murder. A separate jury convicted Chance's girlfriend, Alicia Andrews, of manslaughter last October, and she was sentenced on May 22 to 15 years in prison.

Nearly 20 years after the murder of British student Meredith Kercher, Amanda Knox, will perform at the Edinburgh Fringe festival in a controversial stand up comedy set called 'Cartwheel', a reference to the exercises that Knox, was said to have performed in custody after her arrest on suspicion of murdering her 21-year-old British flatmate in Perugia, Italy. Kate Mansey, Assistant Editor of The Times reported on the crime in 2007 and was the first journalist to secure an interview with Raffaele Sollecito, Knox's then Italian boyfriend. Knox was convicted of the murder in 2009 along Sollecito. She was sentenced to 26 years in prison but her conviction was overturned in 2011. Two years after that, the acquittal was overturned and a retrial ordered, with an appeals court convicting Knox of murder for a second time. But in 2015, the Italian Supreme Court definitively acquitted her. Sollecito was also acquitted and Rudy Guede, an Ivorian student who had a record of burglaries, was found guilty and sentenced to serve 16 years.
