I had a feeling of that too! Hence why I did the cap kit! That and the transistor are the most prominent components on the board. I mean I guess there are A few smaller diodes I could try pull out of the circuit to test. But IDK

is there any way you can take a hi-rez image of the OG board that you were fixing, sometimes fresh eyes can see something you missed. maybe theres a hairline crack in one of the tracks

Probably a bad secondary coil on the transformer block powering the dc supply side or that big ol cap. Switching psu is better. Id also go with LEDs instead of fixing that old marquee light that just burns up the marquee art. Sorry this game sending you thru hell. *hugs*

Tbh I'm kind of suspecting the transformer too. As for the lights, I totally see where you're coming from and that makes complete sense for If the machine is being run in an actual business! But for being occasionally turned on in my basement, I don't think it's a big deal!
