Everyone I know has this ability….. Most people with arthritis feels it in their bones.

Spike in ozone, humidity & geosmin is how Americans “smell the rain” before it actually rains. 🇺🇸

He's probably nose-blind to the rain because it rains so much. It's like when your house smells like dog piss because you didn't train your stupid mutt, but you've gotten used to the smell and can't recognize it anymore.

Oh my , I thought that everyone could smell rain 🌧️ coming.🤷♀️

I know, in Wyoming, you can smell the rain because the wetness hitting the dry earth and grass puts off a glorious earthy smell... you can smell it coming for miles! ..but I also have old injuries that tend to be my barometer, also. 😉

I thought everyone could smell the rain coming...lol I feel bad for that dude

I can smell the land and such... after it has rained... petrichor (look it up). But having broken my left wrist at 12 years old... I can sometimes feel a storm / pressure changes in my 'bones'.

It’s ozone mate. You can smell it just before it rains

Holy shit isnt that a normal thing? Im more surprised that they can't smell the rain

Humans are more sensitive to geosmin than most sharks are to blood, so we can smell the rain when its still miles beyond sight. It's very possible Brits are essentially noseblind to it because the environment never stops having it in the air.

For the most part, yes. I can usually smell when it rains.

Yes... and even more so, snow. And the question reminds me of an old TV show: Kwai Chang Caine: "Old man, how is it that you hear these things?" Master Po: "Young man, how is it that you do not?"

Can smell it and before that the leaves tell you 🤗

Yes, tou can smell the change in the air before rain and even snow. It has a distinct smell

He can't smell rain? I guess when it rains like every fucking day and you don't see the sun in your home country, maybe you just get nose blind to it.

Maybe because it’s always raining there so they are desensitized to the smell?

Yes, we can smell the rain...

If it's a dry environment you can smell the ozone from the pouring rain and dark clouds on their way to where you are at..... to pour rain on you.

In my experience, its more common in folks who've lived for a while in the desert. I can also smell when it's going to snow, it's a similar but distinct aroma.

Usually you can feel it coming too.

In Florida it depends. If the storm is starting to form the air gets sticky and thick. Then the smells change whether it's an early or late storm depending on if the wind is blowing towards the storm or away from.

Dont tell him about people's knee hurting b4 a storm

Yes, yes we can smell the rain coming.

I for real thought everyone could do this. I don’t bother with the weather app unless I smell the rain coming. Then I pull up the radar and see how big the blob is.

Depends where you are. In big cities all smells blend together into a putrid rotten disgusting olfactory monstrosity. In rural areas, you can smell wet soil and that's usually a precursor for rain because it means it's already been raining nearby and that smell travels.

It's a combination of chemicals 1. A chemical released when grasses are wet and 2. Ozone caused by lightning

Ignore him, before a thunderstorm we smell the ozone, even if it's not ozone we've been calling it ozone since childhood, I imagine this chap doesn't leave the sofa or the pub often

So funny!

I live in the desert and can definitely smell rain coming. It rains so much in the UK you probably just get used the scent.

Yes, it's true.

Ozone and Petrichor. Also a bit of dampness. It's probably because it's raining some miles away, but yeah, you cam smell it.

Fact.

Wait can't everyone?
