He's probably nose-blind to the rain because it rains so much. It's like when your house smells like dog piss because you didn't train your stupid mutt, but you've gotten used to the smell and can't recognize it anymore.

I know, in Wyoming, you can smell the rain because the wetness hitting the dry earth and grass puts off a glorious earthy smell... you can smell it coming for miles! ..but I also have old injuries that tend to be my barometer, also. 😉

I can smell the land and such... after it has rained... petrichor (look it up). But having broken my left wrist at 12 years old... I can sometimes feel a storm / pressure changes in my 'bones'.

In my experience, its more common in folks who've lived for a while in the desert. I can also smell when it's going to snow, it's a similar but distinct aroma.

In Florida it depends. If the storm is starting to form the air gets sticky and thick. Then the smells change whether it's an early or late storm depending on if the wind is blowing towards the storm or away from.

Depends where you are. In big cities all smells blend together into a putrid rotten disgusting olfactory monstrosity. In rural areas, you can smell wet soil and that's usually a precursor for rain because it means it's already been raining nearby and that smell travels.

It's a combination of chemicals 1. A chemical released when grasses are wet and 2. Ozone caused by lightning
