According to Gospel musician Nicholas Omane Acheampong, the ongoing galamsey activities in the country are being carried out by foreigners who were brought in and equipped by the NDC to mine and destroy our water bodies, making the NPP party unpopular in order to win votes from Ghanaians. He added that if President Akufo-Addo had deployed soldiers to galamsey sites to combat illegal miners, these same foreigners would have disguised themselves as soldiers and killed Ghanaians to sabotage the NPP government.

It has become evidently clear that, one of the key enablers of the Galamsey menace in Ghana is the NDC. Clearly, they make the country’s efforts to end this menace a difficult one, when they continue to go into Galamsey sites to encourage the people to commit these criminalities. When they continue to assure them to vote for them so they will come to government to protect them and allow them to continue the galamsey, it makes it difficult. The sad part of this, is how they come to the public to call our government and accuse government of inability to end this menace, and then they rush to the galamsey sites to encourage them not to stop galamsey. Truly, we have challenges and problems as a country, but it’s becoming increasingly obvious that, one of Ghana’s biggest problem, is the NDC. Unfortunately, we have a democracy and can’t do anything other than managing them. Vote against the NDC, they are key enablers of Galamsey, they are dishonest and insincere and have no clear plan to deal with this menace other than assure the people of allowing them to even engage more in this illegality. Vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who has outlined a clear plan on handling this by channeling the energies of the people into safe and appropriate mining through the following strategies; 1. Minerals Development Bank to support with financing 2. Decentralized and convenient licensing regime to ease access to concessions by the locals 3. Provide Data to make it easy to identify when the gold is, in the land 4. Buy the Mined Gold from the people to grind the country’s reserves through the Gold Backed cedi program to boost the strength of our currency. 5. The NDC Is fast turning out to be a disruptive interlude and a complete waste of the country’s time as they struggle to fulfil Even the simplest of promises they made to the people. The government needs to take this country serious and simply do what they promised. It is becoming stressful listening to them everyday making excuses for even the simplest of things like repeal of a law which they promised. We are in the 8th month of the year and they have not intitiated a single new strategy in dealing with the Galamsey menace. Rather, their officials in government and party are on record to have invaded our forests and river bodies actively destroying our natural resources in search of gold. Enough of the rhetorics and talk, they shld just walk the talk and fix the situation. It is sad to see NDC members and government are officials like Prof, Gyampo gone completely mute and swimming in power whiles his colleagues in the party destroy our rivers and forests. Stop the excuses and fix Galamsey

This is the situation of the Ayensu River running through the Mankrong and Kwanyarko communities. These innocent citizens have never experienced their river polluted to this level. The water treatment plant is shut down as a result and about 11 districts in the central region have no access to potable water. The women have to fetch this water sometimes and cook the water for hours before they can drink. Painful part is, they do no mining in these communities. They are only suffering the impact of mining from 100s of kilometers away. This NDC Government won the 2024 elections largely on the back of Galamsey and the inability of the NPP government to win the fight. I always insisted the NDC were enabling Galamsey the reason it became a difficult fight for the NPP. Today, the situation is worst, our water bodies have been invaded 3times fold and it’s deteriorating at an alarming rate. We call on government to quickly fulfil the promises made to the people. They were just a 6 promises. At least they shld implement this and fail then we know they have made the efforts. For now, they deny the situation is worst, they are buying gold from the Galamseyers, their party people in some areas are leading the onslaught on our river bodies, The government has a laid back attitude to the fight and simply doing the same things already in place when they took office. I like how he highlighted Galamsey. For anyone who’s new or doesn’t know about Galamsey. Galamsey basically means illegal mining. It happens in the Ashanti region, Central, Eastern and Western region, among others. It basically means mining without a license, often carried out in rivers , forests and other protected areas. The consequences of galamsey are serious because it leads to water pollution, destruction of farmlands, and loss of biodiversity. Mercury and cyanide, chemicals often used in the process, contaminate rivers and waterbodies, making them unsafe for drinking and farming. Many communities rely on the water from these rivers that are contaminated. Water treatments centers are shutting down due to the inability to filter the contaminated water. Babies are being born with birth defects, and there’s been a rise in kidney failure and other health related cases. Aside from the health and environmental impacts, Galamsey has severe social consequences. Some children are trafficked into illegal mining operations, often working in dangerous conditions for long hours. Galamsey is an ecosystem consisting of various actors that sustain its operations. We have political actors that protect these concessions, Chiefs that allow the destruction to continue, front liners who are on the ground, gold smugglers, foreign actors and so on. #StopGalamseyNow

The difference between NDC and NPP is that NPP think of generations to come but NDC think of the now for the applause. Only time will tell. In 2023, Ghana’s gold reserves were 8.78 tonnes since Nkrumah era but visionary Dr. Bawumia came up with the Gold Purchase programme which is a policy where the BOG buys gold locally from miners using cedis, then keeps that gold as part of the country’s official reserves. By December 2024, these reserves had risen from 8.78 tonnes since the inception of Ghana to 30.53 tonnes , meaning the NPPs strategy helped add 21.75 tonnes of gold. Dr. Bawumia introduced the gold Purchase programme to solve specific economic challenges facing Ghana; to stabilize the cedi, to build reserves without borrowing, to reduce reliance on external financing, to formalize small scale mining and stop smuggling etc. I’m glad yesterday, Sammy Gyamfi and Senyo Hosi applauded the visionary Dr.Bawumia for the Gold Purchase Programme which has been beneficial to GOLDBOD and Ghana at large.

12 Years ago when the NDC and their assigns introduced river body galamsey, that’s when they started destroying our water bodies and cocoa farms. Just look at the colour of our water bodies 12years ago under the NDC. 12years on, as the country battles this out and we continue to fight this criminality, you still have these same NDC guys in the galamsey pits encouraging these criminals to continue desecrating our river bodies. They enable the galamseyers to mine and then they come to Accra to come and accuse the government for failing to fight galamsey. How do you win a fight against a social canker like this when you have saboteurs in opposition, promising to allow these guys to illegally mine and free those jailed for this same illegality. We must do everything within our strengths to get these criminals of our river bodies and win this fight against galamsey, but it’s a lost cause if we continue to politicize it and make it look like an NPP creation. It makes room for the real perpetrators to hide under the noise and continue this crime. Let’s fight this together and not allow any political party and their surrogates to hijack this for their political gain.

INSIDE OYO NATIONAL PARK: HOW ILLEGAL MINING HAS TURNED A PROTECTED FOREST INTO A LAWLESS COMMUNITY. As some of you might recall, i did a light report about illegal mining carried out in Old Oyo National Park which is linked to Kwara State as well in 2023. After the report which, I remembered reaching out to Ministry of Mining, a taskforce was established to curtail the activities of the miners, it worked effectively especially at the Oyo state side but it wasn't working effectively in Kwara state. After the killings of 5 National Park personnel by bandits last week, which I broke the news, I carried out an investigation to see the level of compliance at the Old Oyo National Park where lithium mining activity is going, then i discovered the said mining has become a full blown community. The current number of illegal miners operating at Old Oyo National Park is estimated to be between 200,000 and 400,000, including individuals involved in buying and selling activities at the site. According to my research , there is nothing sold outside the illegal mining site that is not also sold within the site. Items sold include foodstuffs, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages, and various forms of hard drugs. There is also the presence of sex workers who render their services to illegal miners inside grass huts constructed within the area. Additionally, medical drugs and medical items such as needles, injections, and intravenous fluids are openly sold at the site. Explosives are also sold to illegal miners and are used for blasting lithium during excavation. There are thousands of blacksmiths on site who fabricate various tools used for illegal mining activities, including shovels, diggers, chisels, and hammers. There is a high rate of child labour at the illegal mining site, also known as Daba. These children are used mainly for sorting lithium from rocks. The illegal mining site is divided into two sections: the Yoruba illegal mining section and the Hausa/Fulani illegal mining section. Both sections are located within Old Oyo National Park. The road leading to the illegal mining site (Daba) is not motorable. Access to the site is only possible by motorcycle. All extracted lithium is transported by motorcycles to Bonni, Igbeti, or Soro in Kishi. This indicates that illegal miners access the mining site through Igbeti, Kishi, and Bonni. As at the time of writing this report, many empty trucks are observed entering through Igbeti, Oyo State, heading directly to Bonni, and passing through Bonni to Jeba Oloru, Kwara State, from where the lithium is transported to destinations of their choice. They operate within the confines of laws established by the illegal miners’ chairman, popularly known as “CD.” Anyone who commits the crime of stealing is punished by death. The area is so enclosed that outsiders can be fished out by them. A bike man who carries lithium from the forest to the truck earns ₦12,000 per bag. One bag of lithium weighs 100kg, and they carry two bags, making 200kg. The miners are so familiar with the area that they can easily move to Igbeti, Kishi, and Bonni in Kwara State from the forest while evading security forces without being noticed, because many of them have been living in the forest for more than three years without seeing the outside world. It is imperative that both the Kwara State Government, Oyo State Government, and the Federal Government get hold of this before it becomes a security problem for the whole country. Illegal mining in Old Oyo National Park is progressing, not regressing.

Today, we do not only celebrate our nation’s history, we honor the sacrifices of our founding fathers and renew our commitment to their promise of safeguarding this nation for generations yet unborn. Just fix what your promised and stop the talking… When I tell you these NDC party and government are a scam, believe cos I know what I am talking about. A few weeks to elections, they together with their friends like Osagyefo Oliver Barker-Vormawor calling for a ban on small scale mining. I disagreed and I still disagree today cos I don’t think it’s a strategy that provides long term solution. The NPP government placed a 20months ban on small scale mining between April 2017 - December 2018, it worked temporarily until it was lifted and we went back to ground zero. Ban isn’t a sustainable strategy, it has been tried before and a new approach is needed. The NDC and their friends insisted the ban was the way to go and they went ahead to actually make a 120 day social contract with Ghanaians to ban small scale mining. Today, they are in government and the NDC are running away from the same thing they fought me on but insisted was the way to go. The people are simply calling on you to do as promised. Your call now! And Guess what, their political allies who were on streets for weeks in the name of freedom fighters and insisted on a ban are today demonstrating and no longer calling for the ban. Today, they are no more calling for a ban but baby sitting their Friends in Government and telling them to end Galamsey before their Presidential primaries. It’s 2025, and I have won the debate on the ban against small scale mining. If the NDC think it’s the way to go as they disagreed with me in the past, then they shld go ahead and implement the ban. VINDICATION CAME TOO EARLY In September 2024 in the run up to the elections, I sat down with KSM and i made a clear point about how complicit the NDC are in the galamsey challenges of this country. I gave clear cut reasons which are grounded on their actions and utterances. I expressed my fear with putting this country in their hands if Galamsey is a concern to all of us. This was the time when NDC members like Prof. Gyampo and his friends were actively misleading the citizens under the guise of being neutral and agitating for a state of emergency for something he knew clearly was being enabled by his political party. Alas, there were myriad of issues confronting the NPP administration then, and so it was difficult for clear voices like ours to be heard and these so called neutrals and academics took advantage to hoodwink the entire country into voting for the NdC. Barely 8 months into their administration and the NDC is already fast proving every single point I made in this interview. Today, it has become evidently clear, that, the Government, its functionaries and party executives are actively enabling Galamsey and some effectively participating in it. The AOWIN traditional council petitioned the president about the involvement of the Member of Parliament in Galamsey The National Organiser of the NDC is seen busily urging on Galamseyers and asking the president to abandon the taskforce efforts The National Organiser and the Vice chairman have been cited by the Government officials for alleged involvement in Galamsey. The upper Denkyira East NDC chairman has been caught on live TV fighting the millitary and asking them to leave him and his party people alone to mine illegally. The TUC told the president to his face about how Galamsey has escalated since the NDC government took over. Wheeew!, we have the real Galamseyers in power and that’s a real crisis and threats for this country. All this government has to do, is to simply implement the specific promises they made to us as their proposal for dealing with Galams

Water Resources Commission has been tracking 41 Water bodies in Ghana since 2005 till date. The NDC Government displays 6 water bodies and ignores the 35 water bodies Becos they are in a worst situation and is asking for praises?. Sometimes, I wonder “who is doing” this government. Nice stakeholder engagement organised, very progressive conversation and then out of no where “boom” you start mounting pressure on your own selves about some progress you claim you are making even in the face of contrary facts. Now, all you have done is invite others to prove to you, that out of the 41 water bodies being tracked by the water resources commission, 35 of them are in a worst situation now than in the past and that is why you refuse to show the data. Central region is in crisis as we speak, the turbidity level in the Ayensu River has risen from 14,000 NTU in 2024 to 94,000 NTU as at now. Why isn’t that part of the rivers you displayed today. Where is the data for the rest of the 35 water bodies. You mount pressure on your own selves and when you are questioned you start screaming. Who sent you! Let me state it here again, Water turbidity levels are not the measure for water quality. The true measure of water quality is the WATER QUALITY index which uses turbidity levels, Nutrients and two other elements to determine the purity of the water levels. The attempt by this government to use 6 water bodies out of 41 to gaslight the entire country is not only laughable but unnecessary. Fine event but they are spoiling it with propaganda. I mean how?? Our dear doctor speaking here is worried and that’s legitimate cos she can see through the gaslighting. Stop buying the Galamsey gold Stop your party people from doing Galamsey Fulfil your galamsey campaign promise Stop the whining and blame games and fix the menace #galamseyEnablers #galamseyevidence

Our President John Mahama must urgently wake up and deal with the escalated Galamsey situation we have in the country today. His attempt to gaslight the country into thinking he is doing us a favour and so needs time beyond 8months to show working is a betrayal to the people. The bar for scandals has been dropped so low under the NDC government that, the issues that were seen as scandals under the NPP government have now been normalized. It tells you how bad the situation is. Long before now, it has always been public knowledge how this government has normalized Galamsey. Government buying gold from Galamseyers has been confirmed by the president himself Government officials directly involved in Galamsey has been normalized NDC party officials involved in galamsey has been normalized The entire country is being excavated, our river bodies and forest reserves have become regular hunting grounds for NDC members and their galamsey allies. Today, some NDC officials are actually moving round taxing/levying Galamseyers and providing them with security and protection to destroy our land. To you the fake neutral, fake neutrals like Prof. Gyampo, who were all over this country, screaming and shouting under the pretense of loving and fighting for Ghana, threatening indefinite strikes if a state of emergency isn’t called over Galamsey, SHAME ON YOU!!! Your heads shld be bowed in shame for misleading this country and misleading your country men to believe you were fighting for a good cause when indeed, you fought for yourself and political party. Today, your political party has become the biggest enabler of Galamsey in this country and yet you sit in the meeting rooms drinking champagne with them and toasting 🥂 to long reign over the country. Under your government today, we have Galamsey happening right in the middle of our towns, at Kwabeng secondary school, our kids study as the view galamsey happening on their compound. At Abomosu STEM, the students have dinner as they use the sounds of excavators as background melodies. Akokeri college in Ashanti has excavators moving right in the middle of the school. Several Districts in the central region have been without potable water for months. It may seem like a lost fight under your government but your conscience would not be allowed to rest!! You selfish, self loving, manipulative individuals who caused unrest in this country over Galamsey are now sitting in strategy rooms with perpetrators and enablers of Galamsey. Shame on you!!!!! The day of reckoning will come and you will be made to account for this crime you sit aloof, enable and watch your friends and colleagues in government and your party bring upon this land. BREAKING NEWS: The Government of Ghana through the Ghana Gold Board, working under the joint-direction of the Minister of Finance and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has reached a landmark agreement with the Ghana Chamber of Mines to buy 30% of the gold output of all large-scale mining companies in Ghana, effective 1st July, 2026. Under the new agreement and unlike the previous 2022 arrangement between the Bank of Ghana and the Ghana Chamber of Mines, each large-scale mining company will sell 30% of their gold output to the GoldBod locally in Ghana, in doré (raw) form and at a discount of 0.55%. All gold purchases under the new agreement will be in Ghana cedis and at to the Bank of Ghana Reference Rate. The new arrangement has been strategically curated by Government to ensure that Ghana achieves LBMA accreditation for at least one local gold refinery by the year 2030. All doré gold bought by the GoldBod will be refined locally to ensure local value retention, shipped to an LBMA refinery for melting and stamping and delivered to the Bank of Ghana as part of the country’s gold reserves. This arrangement is in line with the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Program (GANRAP) aimed at building foreign reserves of 15-months of import cover by the end of the year 2028 and President Mahama’s vision of achieving zero raw mineral exports by the year 2030. Other details of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Ghana Gold Board, the Bank of Ghana and the Ghana Chamber of mines will be published on Monday, 29th July, 2026

🚨🚨🚨 We just learned that the House is going to be voting TOMORROW on H.J.Res 140: the single largest threat posed to the Boundary Waters to date. This bill would *permanently* open the Boundary Waters up to mining, and prevent all future administrations from protecting these public lands. This would pave the way for sulfide-ore copper mining in the region -- the most toxic industry in America -- which has never been allowed in Minnesota before. It would cause irreversible damange to the most visited wilderness area in the country. And this would be a massive sell-out to foreign interests over the American people. This would give mining rights to Trump's Chilean-based mining company billionaire buddies, who will extract our resources, pollute our air, land, and water, permanently damage our pristine Boundary Waters, and leave Minnesotans to foot the bill for the clean up. I'm urging all of my colleagues to vote NO. We need to get loud and stop this legislation.

In Ghana, our water bodies, farmlands, and forests are being destroyed by illegal mining. In galamsey prone areas, the water is so heavily contaminated that water treatment plants are shutting down because they can no longer filter it.
