George Lucas on how he had to reluctantly write the screenplay for 'American Graffiti' (1973) & the confidence he gained from the movie's success: "When I was doing 'American Graffiti' (1973) I was still struggling with my ‘I don’t want to be a writer’ syndrome. I had some good friends of mine that I wanted to write the screenplay, but it took me like two years just to get the money to do a screenplay. And I got a little tiny amount of money and—which I had to go actually to the Cannes Film Festival to get on my own. So finally I got this money. I called back and I said, you know, “I got the money. We can start working on the screenplay.” And they said, “Oh, we don’t want to do that now. We’ve got our own low-budget picture off the ground and we can’t write it.” I said, “Oh no.” I said, “What am I going to do? I am in Europe and I’m not going to be back for like three months and I want to get this thing off the ground.” So they recommended another student from school that I knew pretty well. I had a story treatment that laid out the entire story scene by scene, so I called him over the phone from London and I said, “Do you want to do this?” And he said, “Okay.” The person I was working with at that time as a producer made a deal with him for the whole money because there wasn’t very much. It was so tiny that he could only get him to do it for the whole amount of money. When I came back from England, the screenplay was a completely different screenplay from the story treatment. It was more like 'Hot Rods to Hell' (1967). It was very fantasy-like, with playing chicken and things that kids didn’t really do. I wanted something that was more like the way I grew up. So I took that and I said, “Okay. Now here I am. I’ve got a deal to turn in a screenplay. I’ve got a screenplay that is just not the kind of screenplay I want at all and I have no money.” And, I spent the very last money I had saved up to go to Europe to make the deal, so I had nothing. That was a very dark period for me so I sat down myself and wrote the screenplay. After I did 'American Graffiti', and it was successful, it was a big moment for me because I really did sit down with myself and say, “Okay, now I am a director. Now I know I can get a job. I can work in this industry, and apply my trade, and express my ideas on things and be creative in a way that I enjoy. Even if I end up doing TV commercials or something, or I fall back into what I really love is documentaries. I’ll be able to do it. I know I can get a job somewhere. I know I can raise money somewhere. I know I can do what I want to do.” That was a very good feeling. At that point, I’d made it. There wasn’t anything in my life that was going to stop me from making movies." Bill Maher's ending monologue of his season finale was dedicated to both sides coming together for Christmas: Bill Maher: "Your job is to help people, all people, not just the ones you agree with. And I would say the same to the FEMA supervisor in Florida who told the rank and file relief workers after Hurricane Milton to avoid helping homes with Trump signs on their lawns. This shit has got to stop on both sides. This is America. I want to be judged by the content of my character, not what's on my lawn. There's a great article that came out in the Free Press this year by someone who learned this firsthand. It's called whatever Happens Love Thy Neighbor. And it tells of how a married couple who are exactly be portrait of a liberal white couple living in Park Slope, Brooklyn. That you would expect wind up moving upstate and then are surrounded by Trumpers and they're petrified. But then when they get stuck in the snow, the Trump guy down the street doesn't hesitate to help dig the liberals out. The author, Larissa Phillips, says she slowly came to reject the political prejudice so common among my tribe and that it's hard to care where someone stands on politics when they race to your house to save a dying lamb. When their wife helped search for your runaway dogs and that she personally has been stunned by the depth of my neighbor's generosity. I get it that for the Democrats, this was a brutal loss. But the plan to deal with it has to be something better than stay in a snit and take advantage of this magical time of year to cut people off. But family isn't like gender. You can't fix it by cutting off members." Now that they're out of power, 'There are fine people on both sides.' Where was this the last 4 years?

jihoon’s sleep paralysis is so bad that he went in and out of it more than 10 times during his massage today :( he couldnt even sleep and get some rest even if he had the time to :( i feel so bad :( 🐶 right after I got back to Korea, I went to get a massage. while I was getting the massage, I ended up getting sleep paralysis. 🐶 u know how it is, right? when you get sleep paralysis, you wake up - fall asleep - get sleep paralysis - wake up - fall asleep - boom sleep paralysis. over and over. u know you’re trapped in that cycle, but you can’t escape it because you’re so tired that you keep falling back asleep 🐶 im like “ah im probably gonna get sleep paralysis again” but at the same time you think, “maybe this round will be different” 🐶 but no, I got sleep paralysis so many times. I seriously got stuck in an endless loop. I was trying so hard to snap out of it, like moving around and struggling, and then when I finally woke up, the massage therapist was like 👩🏻 oh? are you okay? is this position uncomfortable for you? 🐶 so I pretended it was that and went “ah yeah im okimokimok” 🐶 then I fell asleep again, and it happened again. I’d move around, wake up, and they’d ask me if im okay. i say yes. this happened like three or four times. 🐶 then later they put something warm on me. but when they did, I suddenly got kind of scared because I was already in that weird state, so I asked, “how long does this stay on for?” and they said about 7 minutes. by then I’d already had sleep paralysis like four times in a row. every time it happened, i’d wake up - sleep paralysis - wake up - sleep paralysis just over and over. 🐶 anyway, after it was all done 👩🏻 does your body feel okay now? 🐶 oh yeah yeah my body feels great. yes yes I think I feel really good 🐶 my manager said he could give me a ride, but since the other hyungs had just gotten back to Korea too, I was like, “no everyone go home and rest. its Sunday anyway, I’ll go by myself.” 🐶 so I was dragging myself home thinking, “should I just lie down and sleep right here on the street?” but it was so hot today, and the back of my neck was burning from the heat. And seriously, this is torture. the suffering of insomnia is real. people who can actually sleep when they want to sleep are seriously amazing. 🐶 I really tried today. It's been fun going through and posting about all my past projects with you guys. 😊 Today brings us to the dating show on FOX I did for a whole season, "Take Me Out" with George Lopez. The point of the show was that they'd parade men out, and you'd hit a buzzer and explain why or why not you liked them. Of course, if you got a date....you were off the show, which I didn't want. So as you can probably tell from some of my completely bullsh*t answers, I avoided actually getting a date until the very last episode where they ended up making it a whole segment. (For what it's worth, my date was also probably the nicest guy that was on the show. I remember for his talent portion he came out and sang opera.) What you didn't see in the edited version for TV, was that while some girls barely got to say anything, producers had George go to me every other time just to see what crazy things I would say. I was doing stand up and improv in LA at the time, and I always saw these reality shows as an opportunity to hone my skills. Ultimately, I ended up doing over 40 Network reality shows in a very short amount of time....always playing the same exaggerated version of myself. I'd ham up this bimbo act (I know why I was hired) but actually always ended up saying very clever and funny things. Crowdfunding Appeal: #SendTwinamatsikoToSchool Yesterday, was an emotional day. I left Kampala at 05 am and drove some 300km in to Rwanama village, in Bugongi Town Council, Shema District to meet Twinamatsiko Vicent (15 years)⏤ the dude in a yellow t-shirt. I first got to know about Twinamatsiko's plight via a news story and appeal that run on Vision Group's TV West. Born on the 29th of April 2009, he lost his parents early in life. He was picked up and raised by his grandmother, Maria Gyija (in black t-shirt and blue skirt). The problem is Maria Gyija herself can barely afford a decent living. Their house and mini banana plantation, sit on less than a 50 * 100 plot. Gyija, makes ends meet by doing paid labour in the nearby better-off households. Twinamatsiko has been supporting and supplementing her grandmother's meagre income by charcoal burning. Twinamatsiko scored 6 aggregates in the 2023 PLE Exams. He had put his first choice in a tier III-rated secondary school near his home- but even then, he wasn't sure where his school fees would come from. I picked interest in his great performance and with the help of Anthony Natif and the Namilyango College Old Boy's Association (NACOBA) Chairman, Alex Matayo, we got him admitted to the great Namilyango College- my alma mater too. Anthony Natif has also promised to step in on school fees in the terms ahead. Today, after answering so many questions from the area LC1 Chairperson and Councillor, I have returned with him to Kampala to start school at the mighty Namilyango College. School opens tomorrow the 19th February 2024. Now that is the great and happy part. While we are committed to doing the best we can and sharing what we have got- January can be a little tight. We could surely use some co-sharing on this responsibility, especially for this term. Now, someone will ask why I had to push myself to take up Twinamatsiko as my responsibility when I knew I couldn't afford it. Frankly, I have also asked myself this question at some point on this journey, but I know in the recent past I have achieved greater things than I ever believed I could. And frequently this has been with the help of you guys, my online family. Plus, I knew this was not something that could wait. It was now or never. They could not believe that modern day Britain would see a political meeting packed full of Pakistani men. Well here is the video that the 'Oldham Group' released themselves from this meeting. You can decide for yourselves whether this video is also Ai. Want to know how towns like Oldham get captured by Pakistani Sectarians and Islamists? How Pakistani cartels, sectarians, and Islamists, working with corrupt councillors and bent coppers, turn working-class communities into their personal territories? As a hot war in the Middle East ramps up, Trump takes a SEVEN MINUTE BREAK to deliver this demented vowel movement about his fountains. Read it. He is absolutely gone. 1/2 “We also have a beautiful city. We had 22 fountains. Every one of them didn't work. One of them, probably the best was one that hasn't worked for 50 years. That was about the best. They've all been out of commission for 50 years or more. Can you imagine it? They were graffiti-strung, grass-strung, the grass growing through the cracks. And they were in terrible shape. And all 22 have now been opened. And the most magnificent, possibly, of all the waterfront and union station is beautiful. You see that? It was all graffiti all over the place. We-- it's a lot of work. We got it looking maybe better than it was the day they put it in. But the one that we're all talking about is the almost 2,500 foot long that's taller than any building in the world, actually. There's no building that's 2,500 feet tall. I don't think. But it's like twice the height of the Empire State Building is an example, much wider. So we just got that open. Last night, we went to do it before July 4, and it is incredible. It's called-- it was originally called 1922. It was built. It was called the Reflecting Pond, or the Reflecting Lakes of people called it. But it was supposed to be a reflection. It never worked from 1920 to-- because it was stone on the base. And no matter what, it always leaked, because you have stone, and you have lots of crevins that we have nice stone out there. But if you go between the stone, it leaks. And so it never really worked very well. And it was a bad color. It was gray. It's concrete and stones. It was gray. And I had the idea, along with some great people that worked for us, Doug Burgum, his fantastic, his group, Greg, everybody. And it worked very hard. But it was going to cost $400 million. And we did it for about $10 million. It was going to take four years to build. So we did it in, like, a month, a month and a half. And we would have had our construction site out there for years. And it wouldn't have worked when they built it. So when they told me what they were going to do, I said, that's not a good idea. I built many, many swimming pools as a builder. I built hundreds of them. And I got one of our contractors. I had them take a look. And he said, oh, we can do a great job. If you could just give us a decent surface, a surface was in sense. So we sand blasted the surface. We fumeigated it. We took out 11 dumpsters, big dumpsters, full of garbage. It was all garbage. Some of the garbage was after years. It was all disgusting. And it smelled. And anyway, we took 11 dumpsters of garbage out. With shovels, we had a shovel inside of what's called a pool or a lake. And I got it cleaned. We then fumeigated it. We then sandblasted the entire thing. Washed it cleaned. It scrubbed it. Sandblasted it. Then we gave it a test. Then we rinsed it out. And we gave them a beautiful surface. And then they put a swimming pool topping, but industrial strength. It's industrial strength. It's used for tanks and lots of other things. So it will water. And we worked out the ratios of expansion and contraction, because you know, believe it or not, when you have something that's 2,500 feet long, this tremendous expansion. And who would think of this? Only a person that doesn't like me. And they have a lot of expansion and contraction. So when we're putting the surface down, we'd leave areas that can expand and contract a little bit. Because it expands over a foot and a half, can you believe it? So I would have ripped it apart. So we left areas of expansion and contraction. We were testing it for three weeks, four weeks. Works great. And we just opened it last night, and people are going wild over.”

But if you go between the stone, it leaks. And so it never really worked very well. And it was a bad color. It was gray. It's concrete and stones. It was gray. And I had the idea, along with some great people that worked for us, Doug Burgum, his fantastic, his group, Greg, everybody. And it worked very hard. But it was going to cost $400 million. And we did it for about $10 million. It was going to take four years to build. So we did it in, like, a month, a month and a half. And we would have had our construction site out there for years. And it wouldn't have worked when they built it. So when they told me what they were going to do, I said, that's not a good idea. I built many, many swimming pools as a builder. I built hundreds of them. And I got one of our contractors. I had them take a look. And he said, oh, we can do a great job. If you could just give us a decent surface, a surface was in sense. So we sand blasted the surface. We fumeigated it. We took out 11 dumpsters, big dumpsters, full of garbage. It was all garbage. Some of the garbage was after years. It was all disgusting. And it smelled. And anyway, we took 11 dumpsters of garbage out. With shovels, we had a shovel inside of what's called a pool or a lake. And I got it cleaned. We then fumeigated it. We then sandblasted the entire thing. Washed it cleaned. It scrubbed it. Sandblasted it. Then we gave it a test. Then we rinsed it out. And we gave them a beautiful surface. And then they put a swimming pool topping, but industrial strength. It's industrial strength. It's used for tanks and lots of other things. So it will water. And we worked out the ratios of expansion and contraction, because you know, believe it or not, when you have something that's 2,500 feet long, this tremendous expansion. And who would think of this? Only a person that doesn't like me. And they have a lot of expansion and contraction. So when we're putting the surface down, we'd leave areas that can expand and contract a little bit. Because it expands over a foot and a half, can you believe it? So I would have ripped it apart. So we left areas of expansion and contraction. We were testing it for three weeks, four weeks. Works great. And we just opened it last night, and people are going wild over.”

“Guys don’t approach girls at the bars anymore.” This is wildly accurate. 15 years ago when you went out, the average girl would get hit on 6x or 7x a night. Now if she’s getting one or two guys hitting on her, it’s a good night. I have beginner students going out to bars now who go out, say very basic things to women, and get into deep conversations & flirtations that land them solid numbers. One student on his first ‘dedicated night out’ (he’s gone out with friends plenty but never went out JUST to meet girls) last weekend saw two “very attractive” girls grinding on each other in the empty dance floor because all the other guys had left, then one of the girls came up to him, dragged him onto the dance floor, and spent the next 20 minutes following him around like a lost puppy (he should’ve taken her home, but… cut him some slack. He’s new!). Maybe that was a little beginner’s luck for him (that wasn’t his only good interaction of the night, either, though), but the point is: these girls are not getting it from dudes nowadays. When I was a beginner in this in the middle 2000-naughts I spent months going out to bars getting rejection after rejection before I finally started having good conversations. I see how fast going it is for a lot of newer guys I am working with now and I am like, “Sheesh, man! You used to have to learn all this game to do this!” But the competition just isn’t there anymore. Where IS the competition? Mostly at home, on the couch, liking Instagram ‘models’, trying to “slide into their DMs” (alongside 2,000 other guys). Meanwhile, the Instagram model is banging some guy she met in a mall food court (true story). The girls are out there. You’re probably not going to find them online. You have to get up off the couch, dust the Cheetos crumbs off, put on some decent clothes, and go outside. Follow the 3-second rule: you have 3 seconds from the moment you lay eyes on her until you have to approach. Focus on making it flirtatious and low pressure. Take the lead with her and see her if you can move her around a bit. Ask her out, get her to change venues with you, or if it goes well invite her back for a drink at yours. If she’s into you, she will do her best to help things along. Just go out, chat up girls, HAVE FUN, and if it’s going well move things forward. That is really all you have to do.

040826 | #CHANYEOL IG LIVE “ Wait, no one’s doing a live for anniversary? The members aren’t doing it? That’s kind of disappointing… Anyway, we’ve reached our 14th debut anniversary now. Wow 14 years. It sounds like just a number, but it feels really strange. First of all, I want to say thank you so much for loving us so consistently over these 14 years. Honestly, rather than us being the ones receiving congratulations, I feel like I want to congratulate you instead. Congratulations! It’s been 14 years, it’s our 14th anniversary! And these days, well, not the day after tomorrow, but in three days . . . wait, actually it is the day after tomorrow, right? The concert starts the day after tomorrow. Today we even went somewhere far and rented a really big hall to rehearse the stage movements. We practiced a lot together today, sang a lot too. Yesterday, the day before yesterday, we’ve just been stuck together, practicing nonstop. So I hope you’re really looking forward to this concert too, and once again, happy 14th anniversary. I think it’s going to be really fun. The members have been dropping spoilers and stuff, but for me . . . it’s really because you’ve been there for us that we were able to reach this 14th anniversary. It feels kind of amazing. Over these 14 years of promoting, meeting you all like this and while preparing for this concert, I’ve been thinking a lot about the past. Honestly, preparing for this concert feels the same as when we did one 10 years ago, so even the process and the members, it all feels kind of strange and surreal. After the Spain and France game, I tweeted this: “Collective quality outperformed individual quality.” This was just a sense. It was a feeling after the game that I quickly put into words, but I didn’t have any evidence for it. I didn’t have anything other than the feeling that I got from watching the game. So I decided to go into FIFA’s Training Centre and look up the match reports to see if I could find anything that would lead to the conclusion I had: that Spain were collectively better than France. At a glance, the answer was no. Other than expected goals, pretty much everything was around the same: complete passes, pass completion, possession percentage and ball progressions. If you look at the line breaks, you’ll see that France were actually a little bit higher, which makes sense because France typically like to play a little bit more vertically. However, there is one statistic that does show what I felt: offering to receive. France had 329 total offers made, distributed fairly evenly throughout the field, and 114 total offers received. Spain, on the other hand, had 438 total offers made. They made 236 offers in the middle third and 275 offers inside the shape. That is where the numbers really begin to differ. As FIFA defines it, an offer to receive is an off-ball movement that shows intent to support the player on the ball, either to maintain possession or progress the ball. Spain were constantly providing their teammates, through proximity, through closeness, and through angles and lines of support, an option to continue playing. That shows that, in moments when Spain have the ball, there are constantly three, four or five players moving and providing an option to continue to maintain possession. Spain play together. The player on the ball is rarely left alone to solve the moment through their individual quality while everyone else watches. There is an option, an exit plan, some way out in case they need it. Secondly, when we think about this Spanish style, we often think about one touch, two touch, pass, pass, pass. What we often fail to realize is that these players have so much ability on the ball. Even a right back has the quality to beat a player, get out of a press and continue the attack. Playing collectively does not mean removing individual quality. Their individual quality allows the collective to continue playing. Then there are the speed-up moments. Spain can maintain possession, move France, slow the game down and continue offering support, but when the moment to go forward appears, it is time to go forward. They recognize that moment of verticality and they accelerate. Then, if the possibility disappears, they slow down again and continue playing. There is another element of Spain. Once they have moved France back into their final third, they create these structures where they basically suffocate you. Any time the ball pops out, there are players ready to defend and ready to win the next ball in order to keep it going. The structure, the organization and the roles allow them to stay pressing, keep playing together and keep having the ball. Lastly, there is this type of football that I call football from the plaza, fútbol de plaza, where you learn to attack, dribble, pass and play in tight spaces. You learn these interactions and these one-two combinations, but you don’t learn them through the repetition of patterns. You learn them through doing it for your entire childhood in these tight areas. It is play, pass and go, play and go, constantly finding the next interaction and then finding that moment of verticality. That whole sequence shows exactly why Spain are Spain. To summarize, they are constantly offering their teammates support. My initial feeling that collective quality outperformed individual quality came from watching Spain play together, always offering options to the player on the ball rather than watching the player on the ball do something with their individual quality. They offer an option, an exit plan, some way out in case it is needed. The players are also able to escape individually when the collective solution is not immediately available. They recognize the speed-up moments and, when they find themselves in moments where they can go forward, they go vertical. Sometimes I like to look at a player’s “worst game of the year” to see how bad it was (or wasn’t). For WR Caleb Douglas (according to PFF) that was the Arizona State game where he matched up with Keith Abney (R5) all day. This was a good battle between Douglas and Abney. But considering it was supposed to be Douglas’s worst outing, it wasn’t all that bad. Texas Tech lost, despite coming back from a 12 point deficit in the final 6 or 7 minutes to take a 3 point lead, after a successful 2-point conversion made possible by Douglas drawing a hold in the end zone on the first 2-point attempt. Sam Leavitt and Jordyn Tyson worked their magic to go all the way down the field in the final minute and not just kick a tying FG, but actually score the go-ahead TD, leaving Texas Tech attempting a Hail Mary as the clock ran out. Things I noticed during the game: - The backup QB Will Hammond playing in place of Behren Morton had some issues with timing and ball placement. A couple of targets Douglas was open, Hammond missed him. Another one, instead of throwing the vertical Hammond patted the ball an extra beat and it threw off the timing. - I loved Caleb Douglas’s willingness to try and make a difference as a blocker. He got nasty with it. - Caleb had a bad drop. Abney got in there and contacted him and Douglas failed to put the ball away. But it’s interesting because Caleb also had one of the most impressive one-handed stabs you’ll see, on a play nobody noticed or cared about because it was a screen that didn’t break open. - On a lot of plays, if there wasn’t safety help, there was an egregious amount of cushion. This is something you see in a lot of Tech’s games. People had been trying, and frankly failing, to triangulate Douglas’s long speed, to where his 4.39 came as a surprise to some. And then when they’re wrong, the same tired excuse comes out, “He doesn’t play to his timed speed.” But the signs were always there. You had safeties stashed way out in the middle of nowhere to protect corners. You had corners giving 10-12 yards of cushion. - There was a lull where either the ball wasn’t coming Douglas’s way or it was inaccurate when it did, and it lasted nearly half the game. So I was looking for signs of Douglas checking out with his route running. That didn’t happen. He ran his routes hard the entire game. - Douglas dialed it up a notch during the comeback attempt at the end, particularly after the drop. He got wide open on a 3rd down vertical vs. physical coverage with no safety help over top (surviving an unflagged face mask in the process). Then he got open in the end zone twice, one of which forced a hold by Abney that did get flagged. I think the takeaway from me was, you’re playing against a good corner, you have a backup QB in, things don’t go well for you nor the offense for most of the game, but you stay locked in and make a difference at the end, mounting an unlikely comeback. I can see why Jon-Eric Sullivan would like his demeanor.

Crimson Desert first impressions. The Open World is massive, it feels alive and it definitely holds up to my expectations when it comes to visuals. I know some reviewers have said the game takes up to 8 hours before it gets good but honestly I immediately fell in love with it and immediately started exploring. I found the puzzles and combat awesome to play with, once you get used to the controls which feel overwhelming at first, especially remembering all of them which can be a hassle first. The main protagonist Cliff hasn't clicked with me yet, right now I feel like he's just confused and there's not so much depth that he offers, I hope that will change as I progress through the story. The story itself and quests are quite interesting and I've actually had a good laugh in the beginning of the game when you have to help a couple struggling to clean the chimney. There are definitely some issues though, I feel like the starting stamina drains too quickly especially if you're using your wings to fly, if you run out of stamina while flying and fall into waters, Cliff will almost immediately drown because the Stamina bar is empty. I haven't encountered any bugs, crashes or stutters as of yet, however there are some ghosting issues when you enter buildings which can be quite distracting. Ray Regeneration on AMD GPUs tanks the performance so I just turned it off completely and instead I'm playing on Ultra Settings, which is a bummer because that tech looked very promising and made quite the difference when it came to visuals. Another weird issue that I had is trying to enter some doors or starting conversations with story character, the button to initiate the conversation wouldn't appear unless I went away and came back to a specific position before starting it. Some other issues include pop-in issues, camera movement and double NPCs with the same voice-lines if you greet them. Overall I think its a good start to a video-game that is quite massive in scale, there are still many things that I'll have to do and progress through before I give a conclusive opinion in this game.

There are definitely some issues though, I feel like the starting stamina drains too quickly especially if you're using your wings to fly, if you run out of stamina while flying and fall into waters, Cliff will almost immediately drown because the Stamina bar is empty. I haven't encountered any bugs, crashes or stutters as of yet, however there are some ghosting issues when you enter buildings which can be quite distracting. Ray Regeneration on AMD GPUs tanks the performance so I just turned it off completely and instead I'm playing on Ultra Settings, which is a bummer because that tech looked very promising and made quite the difference when it came to visuals. Another weird issue that I had is trying to enter some doors or starting conversations with story character, the button to initiate the conversation wouldn't appear unless I went away and came back to a specific position before starting it. Some other issues include pop-in issues, camera movement and double NPCs with the same voice-lines if you greet them. Overall I think its a good start to a video-game that is quite massive in scale, there are still many things that I'll have to do and progress through before I give a conclusive opinion in this game.
