Hirotaka Saito, a 54-year-old businessman from Yaizu in Shizuoka, Japan, once reached a point of deep despair when his company faced crisis and he contemplated ending his life. At that moment, his beloved dog blocked the door, refusing to let him leave an act that stopped him from committing suicide and gave him a reason to live again. Moved by this unconditional love, Saito closed his company and sold his Ferrari to dedicate his life to helping other animals in need. With the funds, he established Wansfree, a rescue shelter for dogs that are abandoned, mistreated, or labeled “too difficult” to rehome, offering them food, care, and freedom. Wansfree now cares for around 40 dogs and several cats, many with traumatic pasts, and Saito dreams of expanding the facility so it can shelter up to 300 dogs by 2028, giving more animals a chance at a safe and loving life.

This is just one of the reasons I joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On one of my many animal evacuations in Sivers’k #Ukraine I was targeted by russians, and they missed by only 50 meters. My saving grace was I parked between some trees and a building, with a small 1m embankment, otherwise who knows if I would be here to write this. #russiaisaterroriststate targeting civilians and animals all to terrorize the general population into submission. Donating directly to units in the Armed Forces is the best thing you can do to protect Ukrainians. That’s why we collect our own donations. We can purchase the battlefield equipment we need, the moment we need it. No delays, no breaches of OPSEC when new people come to deliver aid. This is insane! In Russia, a woman has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for helping Ukrainians. Photographer and volunteer Nadine Geisler (real name — Nadezhda Rossinskaya) was sentenced to 22 years in prison. The case is blatantly fabricated: officially — for “treason,” “financing terrorism,” and “calls against the security of the Russian Federation,” but in reality — for providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Geisler evacuated animals and refugees, founded the initiative “Army of Beauties,” helped locate missing persons, and delivered medicine to war zones. All three criminal charges are based on a single post about collecting aid for the Ukrainian Armed Forces — which she says she didn’t even write. The “Army of Beauties” is a volunteer movement formed after the start of the Russian invasion. Its members collected humanitarian aid for Ukrainian civilians and evacuated them from combat zones. The trial was held in closed sessions in Belgorod. The sentence is one of the harshest handed down during the entire war. The same judge previously gave a 5-year sentence to a schoolboy for allegedly participating in a “terrorist organization.”

🙏😢My friends, it brings me sadness to share the same updates from 🇵🇸💔#Gaza with you every day, but the situation only continues to get worse every day. The bombing is constant, it goes on day and night, and we are so very tired and hopeless. We are not just physically tired, it is like our souls are tired, and every day we spend every moment waiting and wondering if this day will be our last. It’s a feeling very hard to describe. The only respite we get from these suffocating emotions is when we are able to give the gift of helping others. We fired up the oven again, and today, we served a variation of breads to the hungry families we delivered them to. We made flatbreads, bread with oil and thyme, and also bread with red peppers. The joy of helping others is indescribable at this time, my friends. It is like a jolt of hope that lightens our hearts. The animals and the people living in tents are going through the worst, my dear friends, and I want to help them as much as I can. After five years at Twitch, the road comes to an end due to today’s Amazon layoffs. Five years ago, I took a leap from being a full time creator on Twitch to joining Twitch proper. I wanted to make a real impact for creators on a larger scale, and I know I did that. I started on the Charity team expanding charity education helping nonprofits understand how to collaborate with creators and supporting creators fundraising for the causes they care most about. I onboarded and fast tracked animal focused non profits to Twitch, helping them bring their animal cams online during the pandemic to grow global audiences beyond local support during the shutdown. From that work, I created the Animals, Aquariums & Zoos category on Twitch. Im also one of the folks who launched the Twitch Charity Tool, empowering creators to fundraise directly on Twitch for nonprofits. After the first layoff, I was moved to Twitch’s Marketing department, where I expanded the Ambassador Program giving it new life and to the Ambassadors, new direction and purpose. From integrating ambassadors into internal feedback loops across monetization, product, trust & safety and more, to larger inclusion in marketing efforts across the site as well as TwitchCon, these were some of the way I uplifted and supported Twitch Ambassadors, their communities and the things they are passionate about. As for what’s next, I’m updating my resume and exploring new opportunities where I can continue empowering communities through community management, creator partnerships, program management, or marketing. While I look for my next adventure, I’ll also be returning to content creation, so you’ll definitely be seeing more of me around. I’ve got some things I’ve been wanting to create and right now is the perfect time 🙂 It’s not goodbye. It’s see you in chat. 💜
