Trust me, if you can read and understand this, you will laugh as hard as I did!! New grad calls me at 22:48 voice already cracking: “Wendy… Wendy I need you. I have a 36 year old who just coded. Or is coding. Or is about to code. His blood pressure is 338 over 143.” I said, “THREE HUNDRED AND THIRTY-EIGHT?! His mean is 207. That’s not even a number that exists.” I know, that’s why I already pulled the crash cart, I’m about to call the rapid, the resident, the attending, and the house supervisor. His SpO₂ is 100% and his heart rate is 84, but that arterial wave line is just SCREAMING at me and the waveform looks like it’s having a seizure and I think his aorta is about to explode out of his chest and land on the floor and I don’t know if I should start pushing levo or nipride or both at the same time or just start chest compressions preemptively. I cut her off. “First off all, calm down and chill out. Second, unplug the machine and try it again while I’m on the phone with you.” … … … Seventeen full seconds of pure radio silence. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Dan Caine paid tribute to yet another unsung aspect of the joint force, focusing this time on those in artillery. “Now, as I often do, I want to share a little bit about our incredible joint force. Today, I’m going to talk about our incredible artillery force comprised of American soldiers and Marines who have been sinking ships, destroying depots, and launching Army tactical missiles, missile systems, or ATACMS precision strike missiles or PRISMS, and high mobility rocket systems, or HIMARS from outside Iran. Our army and marine artillery are hitting sites that Iran relies on to project power beyond their borders and protect our deployed. In just the first 13 days of this operation, our artillery forces have made history. They fired the first precision strike missiles ever used in combat, reaching deep into enemy territory. They’ve used Army ATACMS to sink multiple ships, including a submarine, and they’ve done all of this with the precision and determination that comes from relentless training and trust in each other and in their weapon systems.” “Yesterday, I had the incredible honor and privilege of speaking with some of our young soldiers from the Third Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the unit and the crew that fired the first precision strike missiles. The soldiers I met came from all over this great country: New York, Texas, Delaware, California. One had been in the Army only six months and had been in the unit for two months and was already deployed. He was the youngest at 20, but you would not know it from the way that they talked about their mission. The others were 22 and 28 years old. They spoke with the sense of calm, pride, purpose and clarity that tells you clearly they understand the weight of what they’re doing and the people who depend on them. I asked him to walk me through a fire mission. I asked not just what they do, but what they feel, especially those first crew members on this particular mission. These soldiers basically live in these vehicles behind us, the cab very tight. Two folks sit next to each other with the crew commander behind them. It’s jammed inside there with their personal weapons and kit, and they sit and wait for a fire mission. There are some moments in life that stay in your heart forever, and seeing Freen Sarocha in person for the very first time is one of those moments for me. 🌷🥹 SAROCHA AT VALENTINO FW 2026 #MaisonValentinoFW26XFreen #ValentinoInterferenze #srchafreen For so long, she had only existed on a screen in front of my eyes, through photos, videos, interviews, and every little moment we held onto as fans from afar. She always felt so close to my heart, and yet impossibly far away at the same time. So being there, in that moment, knowing she was truly right there in front of me, felt almost impossible to believe. At the beginning, the weather made everything feel even more uncertain. The rain, the cold, and the waiting made the whole moment feel like something I had dreamed of too many times to trust it was really happening. I didn’t even get to see her arrive or enter the building, and for a while, I truly thought that maybe this was not going to be the day I would finally see her. That feeling was heartbreaking, because when you carry such a special hope in your heart for so long, even a small disappointment can feel enormous. But somehow, at the end of the show, everything changed. The rain finally stopped, and at last, I was able to see her up close. And in that instant, all the waiting, all the cold, all the uncertainty disappeared. It was replaced by pure emotion. Seeing Freen with my own eyes for the first time was far more overwhelming and beautiful than I could ever have imagined. No screen, no photo, no video could ever compare to the feeling of that real moment. I was so deeply emotional, so overwhelmed, and so genuinely happy that it is still difficult to fully describe it. It was not just excitement — it was something much more profound. It was the feeling of seeing someone who has brought so much light, comfort, and inspiration into your life, and finally realizing that the moment you once thought was impossible had become real. My heart was full in a way words can barely explain. Today, Stephen Bates has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 18 years after being found guilty of murdering Martin O’Donovan in April. On a night where Martin’s family were celebrating his mother’s 70th birthday, Bates was heavily intoxicated, and people intervened to prevent him from driving. Bates returned to the scene in his car, using it as a weapon to fatally injure 47-year-old Martin who was sitting outside the house. Martin was seriously injured after the car was driven at him on Stonyhurst Road. Emergency services attended the scene, and Martin was taken to hospital, but he sadly died from his injuries. Everyone should read this because it is a microcosm of why everything has gone to shit. This is how his malignant narcissism destroys everything he touches. “We built an aircraft carrier for $19 billion, which is crazy. The price is crazy. It started off at-- I came in one of the first things I want to see. It was the Ford aircraft carrier. It was way over budget. And it had things on it that you didn't need. Like it had magnet. It magnets to lift up the elevators with 10 and 12 planes on them. Think of it. It had all sorts of modern day things that were all instead of using steam for the catapult. They used electric. Let's have an electric catapult. And so what I went to the ship, because I came into office and the ship was way over budget. Built a new produce, unfortunately. It was way over budget. It was going to cost $3 billion. It was up to like $18, $19. It was terrible. And I said, I want to meet the catapulter. And the man came over along with four of his assistants. And I said, what's better? Electric catapult or steam? He's been there for 25 years. He said, steam is better. We can fix it with a hammer and a blowtorch. When the electric goes bad, I have to send the MIT to get geniuses over here. I said, steam is better. Yes, sir. It's better. So why did they do electric? Because you can have the catapult go like this. But you can't put planes on it, sir. It takes you 39 seconds. By the time the 39 seconds is up, you have a full-head of steam. And I love breathing that steam, sir. That's that cleanest air you've ever seen. But I said, so you're saying we spent billions of dollars extra to build electric catapults instead of using. And I said, well, I'll still hear you. He said, the elevators are no good, sir. They lifted up by magnets. So here's my deal. I said, when Caterpillar tractor-- and I watched more tractors than any human being in a rip-erock or right through a rock-- it's all hydraulic. So I said, when Caterpillar goes into the business of using magnets to lift up their little blades, when they go away from hydraulic, I'll tell you what. I'm going to do something. I'm going to start using magnets, but we don't want to use them. So we're not letting any Pete. We're not letting any more ships be built with the ridiculous-- billions of dollars more they spent on electric catapults and they're not good. They're not nearly as good. Too complex. And by the way, we had to call the ship in twice because the catapults didn't work. And I predicted that was true. And the same thing with the magnetic elevators. Akira Kurosawa on his experience watching 'Solaris' (1972) & drinking vodka with Andrei Tarkovsky in Moscow: "I met Tarkovsky for the first time when I attended my welcome luncheon at the Mosfilm during my first visit to Soviet Russia. He was small, thin, looked a little frail, and at the same time exceptionally intelligent, and unusually shrewd and sensitive. I thought he somehow resembled Toru Takemitsu, but I don’t know why. Then he excused himself saying, “I still have work to do,” and disappeared, and after a while I heard such a big explosion as to make all the glass windows of the dining hall tremble hard. Seeing me taken aback, the boss of the Mosfilm said with a meaningful smile: “You know another world war does not break out. Tarkovsky just launched a rocket. This work with Tarkovsky, however, has proved a Great War for me.” That was the way I knew Tarkovsky was shooting 'Solaris' (1972). After the luncheon party, I visited his set for Solaris. There it was. I saw a burnt down rocket was there at the corner of the space station set. I am sorry I forgot to ask him as to how he had shot the launching of the rocket on the set. The set of the satellite base was beautifully made at a huge cost, for it was all made up of thick duralumin. It glittered in its cold metallic silver light, and I found light rays of red, or blue or green delicately winking or waving from electric light bulbs buried in the gagues on the equipment lined up in there. And above on the ceiling of the corridor ran two duralumin rails from which hanged a small wheel of a camera which could move around freely inside the satellite base. Tarkovsky guided me around the set, explaining to me as cheerfully as a young boy who is given a golden opportunity to show someone his favorite toybox. Bondarchuk, who came with me, asked him about the cost of the set, and left his eyes wide open when Tarkovsky answered it. The cost was so huge: about six hundred million yen as to make Bondarchuk, who directed that grand spectacle of a movie “War and Peace,” agape in wonder. Now I came to fully realize why the boss of the Mosfilm said it was “a Great War for me.” But it takes a huge talent and effort to spend such a huge cost. Thinking “This is a tremendous task” I closely gazed at his back when he was leading me around the set in enthusiasm. Concerning Solaris, I find many people complaining that it is too long, but I do not think so. They especially find too lengthy the description of nature in the introductory scenes, but these layers of memory of farewell to this earthly nature submerge themselves deep below the bottom of the story after the main character has been sent in a rocket into the satellite station base in the universe, and they almost torture the soul of the viewer like a kind of irresistible nostalghia toward mother earth nature, which resembles homesickness. Without the presence of beautiful nature sequences on earth as a long introduction, you could not make the audience directly conceive the sense of having-no-way-out harboured by the people “jailed” inside the satellite base. I saw this film late at night in a preview room in Moscow for the first time, and soon I felt my heart aching in agony with a longing to returning to the earth as quickly as possible. Marvellous progress in science we have been enjoying, but where will it lead humanity after all? Sheer fearful emotion this film succeeds in conjuring up in our soul. Without it, a science fiction movie would be nothing more than a petty fancy. These thoughts came and went while I was gazing at the screen. Tarkovsky was together with me then. He was at the corner of the studio. When the film was over, he stood up, looking at me as if he felt timid. I said to him, “Very good. It makes me feel real fear.” Tarkovsky smiled shyly, but happily. And we toasted vodka at the restaurant in the Film Institute. Tarkovsky, who didn’t drink usually, drank a lot of vodka, and went so far as to turn off the speaker from which music had floated into the restaurant, and began to sing the theme of samurai from Seven Samurai at the top of his voice. As if to rival him, I joined in. For I was at that moment very happy to find myself living on Earth. Solaris makes a viewer feel this, and even this single fact shows us that Solaris is no ordinary SF film. It truly somehow provokes pure horror in our soul. And it is under the total grip of the deep insights of Tarkovsky. There must be many, many things still unknown to humanity in this world: the abyss of the cosmos which a man had to look into, strange visitors in the satellite base, time running in reverse, from death to life, strangely moving sense of levitation, his home which is in the mind of the main character in the satellite station is wet and soaked with water. It seems to me to be sweat and tears that in his heartbreaking agony he squeezed out of his whole being. And what makes us shudder is the shot of the location of Akasakamitsuke, Tokyo, Japan. By a skillful use of mirrors, he turned flows of head lights and tail lamps of cars, multiplied and amplified, into a vintage image of the future city. Every shot of Solaris bears witness to the almost dazzling talents inherent in Tarkovsky. Many people grumble that Tarkovsky’s films are difficult, but I don’t think so. His films just show how extraordinarily sensitive Tarkovsky is. He made a film titled 'Mirror' (1975) after Solaris. Mirror deals with his cherished memories in his childhood, and many people say again it is disturbingly difficult. Yes, at a glance, it seems to have no rational development in its storytelling. But we have to remember: it is impossible that in our soul our childhood memories should arrange themselves in a static, logical sequence. A strange train of fragments of early memory images shattered and broken can bring about the poetry in our infancy. Once you are convinced of its truthfulness, you may find Mirror the easiest film to understand. But Tarkovsky remains silent, without saying things like that at all. His very attitude makes me believe that he has wonderful potentials in his future. There can be no bright future for those who are ready to explain everything about their own film." Solaris makes a viewer feel this, and even this single fact shows us that Solaris is no ordinary SF film. It truly somehow provokes pure horror in our soul. And it is under the total grip of the deep insights of Tarkovsky. There must be many, many things still unknown to humanity in this world: the abyss of the cosmos which a man had to look into, strange visitors in the satellite base, time running in reverse, from death to life, strangely moving sense of levitation, his home which is in the mind of the main character in the satellite station is wet and soaked with water. It seems to me to be sweat and tears that in his heartbreaking agony he squeezed out of his whole being. And what makes us shudder is the shot of the location of Akasakamitsuke, Tokyo, Japan. By a skillful use of mirrors, he turned flows of head lights and tail lamps of cars, multiplied and amplified, into a vintage image of the future city. Every shot of Solaris bears witness to the almost dazzling talents inherent in Tarkovsky. Many people grumble that Tarkovsky’s films are difficult, but I don’t think so. His films just show how extraordinarily sensitive Tarkovsky is. He made a film titled 'Mirror' (1975) after Solaris. Mirror deals with his cherished memories in his childhood, and many people say again it is disturbingly difficult. Yes, at a glance, it seems to have no rational development in its storytelling. But we have to remember: it is impossible that in our soul our childhood memories should arrange themselves in a static, logical sequence. A strange train of fragments of early memory images shattered and broken can bring about the poetry in our infancy. Once you are convinced of its truthfulness, you may find Mirror the easiest film to understand. But Tarkovsky remains silent, without saying things like that at all. His very attitude makes me believe that he has wonderful potentials in his future. There can be no bright future for those who are ready to explain everything about their own film." A Littleton school bus assistant repeatedly abused at least two severely disabled boys during trips to and from a school for kids with autism and developmental disabilities, police said, and they fear there could be additional victims. Kiarra Jones, 29, has been charged with a low-level felony on assault charges and has posted a bond at the Arapahoe County Jail. LOS ANGELES (KABC) — In Arcadia City of Arcadia (pop. 60,000, shares border with Pasadena), a couple’s 21 children — all from surrogate mothers — have been placed in “protective custody” (aka foster care) amid an investigation. Arcadia PD “stumbled upon” a $4 million mansion at 612 W. Camino Real Avenue, Arcadia, CA 91007 while investigating a child abuse case involving a 2-month-old suffering a traumatic head injury. After getting a search warrant, detectives seized security cameras from inside the home and made some alarming discoveries. “We discovered numerous children - 15 children to be specific - ranging in ages from 2 months old to 13 years old,” Arcadia police Lt. Kollin Cieadlo said. “Many of the children were birthed through surrogacy and then the male and female at the residence took legal guardianship of those kids,” Cieadlo added. Six other children, investigators say, had been moved to other homes. All 21 of the kids were confirmed to be the children of 65-year-old Guojun Xuan and 38-year-old Silvia Zhang. They were arrested for felony child endangerment but later released. Police have also issued an arrest warrant for their nanny, 56-year-old Chunmei Li. Investigators say after looking at surveillance video, she is the main suspect in the child abuse case and is still on the loose. “The discipline, both verbally and physical, was severe to the point where it supported the beliefs that child abuse was occurring inside the home,” Cieadlo said. In a year since I first met Arnav Kapur, his device, AlterEgo, went from a janky prototype to simulating telepathy. Arnav has been an inspiration to me since I'd first heard of him in 7yrs ago and I want to share his story.: I first heard of Arnav from his viral ~1M hits MIT Media Lab video from 2017. It harkened back to a similar talk from the same group by another Indian in 2019, Pranav Mistry, one of the major reasons I (and many others) decided to study in the US. I met him through his younger brother, who I'd gotten to know over the years (also a genius in his own right). I immediately asked him "Why didn't you commercialize this? Was this just a flashy academic demo?" and he said "I'm doing that now. With LLMs, I think it's finally time." But the first demo was janky. It took 15 mins to set up. Electrodes needed to be taped to your cheeks. It worked maybe 80% of the time. Calibration for new users took even longer. And it could only say 4000 sentences. Yet, it still felt like magic. I pointed at one of the sentences for his colleague Scott to say silently. In seconds, barely moving a muscle, I'd get a text of that sentence to my phone. I couldn't see his mouth move at all! But was silent speech really possible? Hardware is hard. There were too many sensors for it to be usable. It didn't work without constant touch to your skin (a beard was an issue). Too much head movement was an issue. The battery was external. Calibration was too much friction. And you could only say a few sentences! Fast forward a year and you have what resembles telepathy. The sensors shrank. The device resembled open-ear headphones. No 15 min set up. And you can say most words. Alterego reads volumetric fine-grained neuromuscular signals in multiple languages and translates them into text. It allows you to understand what the user's saying with no noise while they barely move their mouth. Hardware is still hard. And there's a long way to go before this is end-user usable. But it takes some serious courage and exceptional engineering skills to dedicate over a decade of your life to building hardware that resembles the future. We need more engineers like Arnav and his team.

After a full year of planning, 35 grandchildren travelled from across the globe and gathered at the village in Redhill, Njanja, to honour and celebrate the lives and legacy of our dearly departed grandparents, Joseph Mackenzie Magende Pfende (15/10/1910 – 30/06/1988) and Helen Brooks (06/11/1918 – 17/08/1991). My grandfather settled in Redhill around 1940, where he established the first store in the area. A man of few words, but decisive in action. His story deserves more than a single post. My grandmother, Helen, was the daughter of Ambuya Chitema of Chihota and a Scottish immigrant who left soon after her birth. She was strong, hardworking, and deeply rooted in tradition. Despite standing out , light-skinned, with flowing hair , she became part of the community in a way that mattered. She worked the land tirelessly, alongside workers and, at times, us grandchildren during school holidays, while Granddad worked as a chauffeur for the MD of African Distillers in the 1970s. We also took time to remember our uncles. Roger Brooks-Pfende (10/03/1949 – 21/04/1981), whose life was tragically cut short after unknowingly drinking traditional beer laced with poison at a community function , an incident that shook the entire Denhere community. Onias George “Mapepa” Mackenzie Pfende (20/08/1947 – 20/06/1998) , a surveyor par excellence, a storyteller, and a man full of compassion. His work helped shape places like New Ardbennie Industrial area and Rufaro Stadium. Newton Brooks (10/01/1951 – 07/07/2024) , “the philosopher.” A wise, gentle man, a great listener, and one of those uncles I could run to for advice back in my dating days 😆 And Martin Brooks-Pfende (16/03/1942 – 22/10/2001) , a fighter and a brawler, loved his fast cars and everything that came with being the OG in the hood of Kong 😆 He worked at Salisbury Municipality, later Harare City Council. Worked hard. Played hard. For many of us, it was a remembrance and a reunion. Some cousins I hadn’t seen in 25 years. Some meeting for the very first time. There was laughter. There were stories. Drinks flowed, music carried through the night, and a strong team of murooras made sure no one went hungry. We sat around the fire until the early hours, reconnecting, remembering, and restoring something that time had quietly stretched. It was waaaay more than a gathering, it was a homecoming. And to say I need a recharge is an understatement. I’m off the grid Monday and Tuesday 😆

His claims about Gisele Pelicot being “gang raped” by “all by white men” is rated as FALSE. According to analysis of names in the case, 12 have a Middle Eastern/North African names plus the 3 names associated with sub-Saharan Africa and the Pacific Islands. This means 27.5% of the 51 suspects are likely non-White. Not only is this far from “all” the suspects, but Middle Eastern and North Africans are estimated to be only 10% of the French population, which means they were significantly overrepresented in the rape of Pelicot. Regarding Epstein, while the charges in the case are reprehensible, nobody has been specifically convicted of gang rape in the case. There are numerous allegations that Prince Andrew committed gang rape but his case remains under investigation. The case involving Sean Diddy Combs, while not as prominent as the Epstein affair, also involved numerous allegations of gang rape as well, all involving African American suspects. Van Aken further states: “Gang rape exists, it’s a huge problem. But to pretend that this is a migration problem, I would put a big question mark over that.” The German statistics paint an entirely different story.
